MYTHS ABOUT THE 2009 DISPUTE EXPOSE
Rather than continue to try to polish the turd it may have been wiser to hold up the hands and admit we screwed up a little but have learned from our mistakes and don't intend to repeat them.
Just a thought...a different direction maybe. :whistle

Sometimes we delivery members act like idiots but we aren't completely stupid. :cuppa

The membership accepted the deal as a collective....including you.
They did what they were instructed to do by their union.
There was no plan b...or so they were told.

It's the 50,000 that DIDN'T bother to vote last time, and the apathy behind this that concerns me most :wave :wave

2009 is in the past and as hard as it may be to forget that is what we need to do.

London are being shat on big style and if the rest of us stands back and watches then it WILL be us next.
The Union is Unity and not a London/rest of the UK split.

It should be national and it should be YES.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

POL members should be balloted as well.

Mutualisation is just privatisation 'light'. Why weren't Letters offered this supposedly more palatable form of privatisation?

Members in POL are being bullied, management are breaking policies left, right and centre, we got shafted over colleague shares and compulsory redundancies are a real threat for us as well.

POL only have one business plan, to cut costs to try to make POL self financing. This has not been agreed with the British public or our representatives. The sort of Post Office that the public wants needs to be financed by subsidy. The public have not given POL a mandate to work employees like slaves to cut the costs to the public purse and the sort of bullying that is being done in the name of the public is criminal.

The EU is having second thoughts about the Postal Directive and so should we.

The fact that the Government has given POL a 1.34 billion pound subsidy indicates that it does not agree that POL should be self sufficient.

POL does need an innovative business plan to serve the public better but this needs to be smart. Any idiot can cut costs and it seems that this option was chosen because it is the only one available as most of RMG's managers are incapable of doing anything else but follow orders, hence the 'command and control' structure.

Unless Parliament has agreed that the Post Office should be self sufficient, POL has no right to implement a plan to cut costs with the objective of making POL self financing and the CWU should certainly not agree to it.

Have to agree that when the released cwu reps were being told that Royal Mail were going to stop there paid release time they quickly changed there tune and pushed for a yes vote on the agreement. The part timers and delivery staff have been shafted big time and they are hurting as the agreement gave Royal Mail a opened hand to bully and harrass staff.
I for one stood up and told Hayes and crew they should hang their heads in shame @ Birmingham at the so called roadshow and there was not many in agreement when I said my stuff they (Midland reps) nodded like the Churchill dog to the presentation from the Big wigs.

Its going tits up and we are all to blame for either voting YES or not encouraging staff to vote @ all.

No fire in my belly to rouse the troops we need a union clearout from the top IMHO

There is much work to be done before then.
A national ballot now would end in failure and that would not only destroy any chance of coordinated action,it would also hang London out to dry.
The membership in general are simply not convinced that the Leadership are up to the challenge of delivering a negotiated settlement that is ultimately...in the members interests and in any way enforceable given that our employer doesn't give a damm about existing agreements.

Can the members be convinced?
I think so given the right strategy from HQ.
Do i believe that HQ are using the right strategy?
No. :cuppa

i hope some national officers hold their hands up and admit bt2010 is a lash up. as a local rep i get slaughtered on a daily basis over it. some one has to fall on their sword over this or the union will struggle for credability

What it boils down to is this:

MCs have been closed across the country with travelling distances greater than the 15 miles stated in the letter. Many took VR but would have preferred to keep their jobs but couldn't handle the travelling or transfer to deliveries. Mail arriving later at DOs has been a fact of life for more than two years and 40% of mail arriving later is the here and now, especially with CSS mail. Part time staff of 40,50,60% in deliveries is on the increase where many offices have already had DM revisions and WM revisions and in fact part time staff ARE working every Saturday already. Staffing levels are at the minimum to carry out the work and often too little staff.

Now if those who already have faced the changes and been largely ignored were to vote YES to industrial action how would it affect their future in RM?
Would MCs reopen, would we go back to a reasonable workload, would the plight of those outside London be finally recognised. Not to put too fine on a point on it or be mercenary in the extreme BUT what's in it for us?

If it did come to hey lads hey, would the full time released union bods be prepared to give up that right in order to have a negotiated settlement and in line with the reorganisation called for in the previous agreement?

i think full time release area and div reps realise the writing is on the wall for their 100% union activitys, but i like to think they would sacrifice this for the greater good
