Re: VR Letter for Managers
Today the Managers at Hemel,Stevenage & Watford were told who has the jobs at the new mail centre, all the acting managers have gone back in to blues, and the new gaff needs 40 managers for the operation, whereas at the moment there is getting on for 90 in all three existing mail centres,so if your are one of the managers unsuccessful in getting a job at the new mistral site, what incentive are you going to have to spur the troops on from now until your mail centre closes.

Well I'll try not to be too graphic, it involves cowboy boots with a metal fitting on the heel with what is known as a rowel, a sort of sharp pointed wheel affair. You get them on all fours..............................well as I said I don't want to be too graphicRedBagMan wrote:Define "spur the troops on"![]()

At this point in the process, I await a guardedly optimistic letter from a Unite rep.

If I had that sort of offer ie 50 grand tax free I would take it, pay everything off and then go to Cuba for 6 months to learn to do dancing properly and become a performer then come back home.

Re: VR Letter for Managers
At Bristol Mail Centre managers given VR preference forms recently. From across all shifts; earlies, lates, nights, weekends a total of nine managers must go. I believe this is not that positions must go, but nine must actually leave the building permanently. Its always been very overmanned with jobs for the boys. See what happens if they dont get nine volunteers shortly.

Re: VR Letter for Managers
I would imagine they will "overarchingly try to avoid compulsory redundancies", but like elsewhere, if they can't be avoided then it becomes a necessityteesdale wrote:At Bristol Mail Centre managers given VR preference forms recently. and so avoidance becomes a nonsense. Someone should have understood the wording much better because someones overarching avoidance is another persons loophole.

Re: VR Letter for Managers
It's worded like that so they'll be "persuaded" to get that postie shirt back on, which then allows another short-term contract employee to be let go.
Better to pay off someone for one week's money than 102 weeks money...

I doubt they will be "persuaded" to get the postie shirt back on.Tman wrote:It's worded like that so they'll be "persuaded" to get that postie shirt back on, which then allows another short-term contract employee to be let go.

In Non-Ops only 7% of those that applied for redeployment were successful.
Royal Mail don't want ex-managers back on the floor and they like the flexibility of FTC's.
"Acting" managers will get bumped back but they were/are nothing more than charge-hands anyway.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: VR Letter for Managers
Chargehands were a good system of staff control in smallish groups for little reward. They did the job as well as organised and supervised their own particular group. I would have thought that deliveries was ideal for that situation, and so did RM when they suggested star burst and team leaders.fishtank wrote:I doubt they will be "persuaded" to get the postie shirt back on.Tman wrote:It's worded like that so they'll be "persuaded" to get that postie shirt back on, which then allows another short-term contract employee to be let go.

In fact it still may end up with something along those lines eventually.

Tax Office will tax it at the higher rate assuming you are earning top rate, to claim it back you have to fill in a tax form to state exactly what you are earning so you can get a rebate based on it, this for anything over £30k.dvbuk55 wrote:Granted .....but you would only be paying tax on the excess and would consequently get around 50K still.postiel wrote:max 30k tax freedvbuk55 wrote:104 weeks?Actually that's not too bad an offer.......remember it's tax free so most will have over £50k. I know at least on of our Line Managers will probably have a bite at it. If I was a manager I'd take it.

Re: VR Letter for Managers
Looking at our Proposed Revision the walks are going to be tough enough for any seasoned Postie. I don't believe any Managers would be able to hack it.
I personally wouldn't want to work next to they assholes anyway. They've had as much responsibility for ruing this Business as the assholes at the top.

POSTMAN wrote:In my part of London our screws have been having meetings with the big knobs...
ALL rest day cover and reserve screws are to go,various offices depending on their size will lose head counts as well, all those acting to be put back in a blue shirt.
When they asked a senior manager what happens if there are not enough taking up VR's he replied,we will find you a job outside the business as best we can.
Seems those blue shirts in the callers office/those who work inside will have to step up to the mark and take more responsibility!
Things like getting us on the sorting and the like.![]()
Now regardless of what we think of our managers, says a lot about the company doesn't it.
I'm hearing the same as you Postman, but also that the workplace coach is the one that there expecting to step up to the plate, and take more responsibility
