DOZENS of cannabis plants were found and two people were arrested after police raided a family home.
Specialist officers executed a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a house in South Terrace, Dorking.
About 15 large cannabis plants were discovered in a garden shed, and 20 smaller plants were found in a basement that was fully equipped for growing large quantities of the Class B drug.
Search dogs, scenes of crime officers and detectives carried out the operation in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Sergeant Andy Rundle says the raid followed a week of gathering information from the community about activity at the semi-detached house.
He said: "Local officers, supported by a specialist proactive team, researched and corroborated the intelligence, which was then put before a magistrate who granted officers a warrant to enter and search the property for evidence."
Sergeant Rundle says the team uncovered "significant evidence" that cannabis was being grown in the basement, and spent several hours removing plants and sophisticated lighting and electrical equipment.
While officers were inside the house a package arrived by Royal Mail containing unplanted cannabis seeds, which was seized as evidence.
Sergeant Rundle added: "We always try to teach young people that there is a story behind cannabis.
"They think cannabis is a safe drug, but so many people don't realise that there is a much larger economy behind it.
"So many young people we speak to on the street use cannabis without any idea about where it comes from and sometimes what it funds.
"The money can be used for other criminal activity, right up to serious organised crime and even terrorism. It is one of our greatest challenges to make young people understand that it isn't harmless at all."
Neighbours in the street expressed their shock at the police operation, which lasted well into Tuesday afternoon.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "It is a very quiet road. Everybody is very friendly.
"They have been living there for about five or six years, they are really nice, they keep themselves to themselves, there have never been any comings or goings.
"They are lovely people. It makes me sad that they are in trouble. I just hope it doesn't ruin their lives."
A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of cultivating plants for cannabis and possession of cannabis.

"While officers were inside the house a package arrived by Royal Mail containing unplanted cannabis seeds, which was seized as evidence." - and to think that the respected regular postman had been supplying cannabis in seed form.
