Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
Get rid of Saturdays? YES PLEASE, I am all for that besides when we are privatised Saturdays will go straight away I feel it is the only way to get rid of a lot of staff in one foul swoop.
The future is bleak no matter how anyone looks at being employed at Royal Mail. (sorry to say)

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
Many offices have lost one sixth of the staff as it is, that's why there's so much failure, so many people have left and not been replaced - so one way to solve the mess is to go Monday to Friday with Saturday still remaining a business day for special deliveries and packets etc, there'll be a skeleton crew on S/A to do it (the people who normally work their rest day).

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
If we get rid of Saturday working then it will affect staff that cover duty's however what i do think is that it should be put to Monday-Friday and that Saturday delivery's should be paid for just the same as any other company who do our job, businesses should be made to pay for premium rate service as they do with courier company's and if you don't want to pay for it then you should just put up with weekday service. The only thing that i will say is that callers offices and special delivery and tracked should be done on a weekend.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
It will come in eventually, only a matter of time. Here's how I see it going and what I think they're working towards.
With Mondays and Tuesdays being quiet, a few might be brought in on Saturdays to walksort flats, packets and whatever non sequenced letters there are.
Come Mondays mail arriving, some mail won't be due until the Tuesday, so will be streamed out. By close of play on Tuesday all mail will be cleared and a Monday and Tuesday will have just been like a normal Wednesday, Thurday and Friday.
f***ing manic

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
Offcom will be conducting a review into the needs of postal users, it is for government with parliamentary approval to make any alterations to the U.S.O following that review. Assuming stae aid permiossion is given by the E.U the pension paymnets of RMG will drop, also income from DSA should increase, staff numbers are dropping and buidling costs are dropping due to MC/D.O closures. That will dampen any financial need to alter the Saturday spec.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
Beggin your pardon, but if you can point out any private company that identifies a reason for failing to exploit maximum levels of profit I'll be gobsmackedBig Daz wrote: That will dampen any financial need to alter the Saturday spec.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
The private company is irrelevant, they will have no power to alter the Saturday spec. Assuming the PSB does what it says on the tin and there are no hiccups such as what we are seeing with the EU at the moment, then the financial case that would apply to MP's and Lords deliberating on a government proposal to reduce/alter the Saturday spec would be reduced.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
If we lose Saturday's we also lose 1 in 6 jobs. This would happen in my delivery office.
Royal mail would save on heating, lighting, fuel etc and we will have more weight to carry yet again. What happens with bank holiday weeks on Tuesday there would 3 days mail.
I would love every Saturday off to have weekends with the family but not for mates to lose jobs and their families lose out.
