Our dispute is not just a London issue. Royal Mail cannot shut two mail centres and a giant delivery office without forcing through compulsory redundancies.
That has implications for the union everywhere. This is a fight to defend our terms and conditions. Royal Mail managers view us as overpaid and under worked.
They say that the business’s “financial difficulties” mean that workers are unaffordable.
But the financial state of the company is caused largely by an unfair valuation of our pension scheme and by the way the post office regulator forces Royal Mail to subsidise its competition.
In short, for the private firms to profit we have to deliver their mail at a loss. These problems are not caused by our “excessive wages”.
It’s the wages and pensions of Royal Mail’s executives that are unaffordable.
That is why we are absolutely right to ballot for strikes and why we are going all out to win it.
And any action London takes should win the support of every other postal worker in Britain.
The bosses are out to break the union in the run up to privatisation.
Let’s make sure they don’t get away with it.

Have lost count in the number of days taking part in industrial action which has supported London units since 1986
As regards the socialist worker, they still try and sell their newspaper outside picket lines to staff who are not earning money because they are on strike, bunch of idealists, not realists

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I have mixed feelings about the Socialist Worker crowd. On one hand, it's always nice to have someone supporting you. On the other, I sometimes get the vibe that they think like they could do this striking thing oh so much better than us (...if only they actually had jobs to go on strike from.)

You cynic Britwrit.
You mean to say you don't necessarily view the Socialist Worker "supporters" as the torch-bearers for a working class up-rising, but more as the usual rentamob mix of idealists and brick-throwers all happily holding out thier hands for money paid in taxes by the rest of us hard-working doh-baits?
Well shame on you....

Ok. I admit it. I'm just bitter that I'm now about twice the age of some of the fresh-faced teens trying to flog it.
