It only winds you up because you are sooo union orientated.
If you stood back, didn't get involved with things that didn't involve you (on a work/business level) and done the job asked of you (more pointed to POL NOT RM) then there wouldn't be such harsh comments made.
All i would have received to my questions were answers relating to the questions.
But so many folk get caught up in all the action and take a side that whenever someone mentions anything against the grain they are branded some obscenity.
But as has been said we all have opinions and usually they are biased towards one corner or the other.
I'd imagine I'd get the same response if this had been a forum used by people that enjoyed working for the company and I'd asked why don't you guys go out on strike

That's most likely because during my time working for Royal Mail, the union (i.e the membership) have got us from a 44 to a 40 hour week, a six to a five day week, boot issue instead of having to buy our own, from a thirty to a forty minute meal relief, real progress in H&S and increases in annual leave. There is much more which could have been done and as far as unions go, I'm more inclined towards the IWW than the CWU, but don't lose sight of the fact that any union is the membership and acting together has brought us benefits which soft arses like you and your management friends would never have given us.armani wrote:you are sooo union orientated.
The Industrial Workers of the World. The union whose members never scab!

In the 70s a colleague of mine once summed up the strength of collective bargaining when he said "When they had it (meaning the owners or managers) they wouldn't give it to us because we weren't organised - now we're organsied they haven't got it but we certainly are going to make them pay now". As you have pointed out it isn't always about direct money payment but in improved conditions - a shorter working week with the same pay is an improvement, more holidays with pay is an improvement - one of the cries by my then union was "retiring earlier with digniity" - that never came about and by the look of things it is going to take a strong will to maintain the pension fund at its current level.IWW Fellow Worker wrote:That's most likely because during my time working for Royal Mail, the union (i.e the membership) have got us from a 44 to a 40 hour week, a six to a five day week, boot issue instead of having to buy our own, from a thirty to a forty minute meal relief, real progress in H&S and increases in annual leave. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
