You could ask the Liverpool 6 if they were on here - apparently they increased the speed of the CSS machines on a managers instructions when it went wrong they got sacked/suspended.

we are 8th in the country at the moment and 1st in london.
wave 1 we ave 88% to 94% OEE
it is not just 1 thing that makes a high oee
the things to look at:

presentation of mail
stops etc
full stakers is a big no no
clear jams in 35secs
log all stops
restart as soon as logged data
use 2 people on clear down

there is other thing aswell but could go on n on

We're in our 5th year of CSS operation and average 66%-68% OEE.

We've been told by the man with the comedy job title of 'automation early life support' that using 2 people to clear down and load is unacceptable because it gives false OEE results.

As a result our jobsworth supervisor (who breaks every other rule in the book to get higher figures) will not allow us to do it.

OEE is a measurment tool used by people who never have to get their hands dirty, to assess the performance of people who work their a$$%s off.

Don't be conned by regional or national performance tables, as someone has already admitted, some offices allow 2 people per machine, some offices destack straight onto a-frames, others into perstop boxes & yorks. It's not a level playing field so don't try to compete.

If you're still enthusiastic about achieving a high OEE, bear in mind that over an average batch of say, 6k items, every 2mins wasted represents a 1% drop in your OEE, so try to reduce any stoppages to the minimum. Keep mail tidy as this will help prevent jams, (logging jams DOES NOT alter your OEE one bit, they just want the figures for analysis purposes) try to keep clear down times to a minimum (but do it safely! Don't take risks, especially when lifting large handfuls of mail) Panic & Stress are your worst enemies, try to stay calm and work smoothly. If something goes wrong deal with it & forget it, if you let it stress you out, you're in for a rough shift.

Don't bother cheating, if you try to "fiddle" your figures by tweaking your start/finish times, in order to make it look as though your clear down times are fast, your overall OEE will still be the same, you just make the machine look bad instead of you. This will send your manager running to the computer to find out why and your "fiddling" will be found out.
My advice is, let your manager, not you worry about OEE. As long as you do the job the way you were trained, they haven't got a leg to stand on.

Must be a good job, as 5 of the 8 "spare" CSS operators our MC have trained up recently - have now handed the job back for "various reasons"

2 of the 4 trained Night Shift operators are off sick at the minute!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, if you run batches for Town/City centre walks, you will probably have a large amount of Firms mail, mail which is all going to the same address, sometimes you have more than one firm sharing the same drop, for example a large office block.
This mail is excluded from the sequencing process, due to the "pegasus" system of delivery sequencing. As a result it becomes part of your "postcode sorted" items.
This mail still forms part of your workload, as it still passes through the machine 3 times, yet it is excluded from the OEE formula!
In simple terms, if you are unfortunate to have these kind of batches in your workplan, you are on a hiding to nothing. As the higher your postcode sorted items are, the worse your OEE will be.. and there's not a damn thing you can do about it!

We had thousands of electoral roll letters last night which were all short coded at the MC so all postcode sorted.Crap OEE and nothing we can do about it !!!

Can never understand the mentality of some mech operators.Why do some people go into work,and half kill themselves trying to beat the previous days throughput/jamrate/total items?It's the equivalent of "runners" on delivery!
The way i see it,you come into work on time,you do your job,then you leave on time!

The manager won't respect you for it,but he will enjoy spending any bonus he may receive for YOUR good peformance...........
