A nice manager or am I going to hell
Had a talk with my manager this morning, am only a 24 hour a week guy and was looking for more hours as I am really struggling with making a living for myself, he offered me overtime but this is not guaranteed so said was looking for another part time job to top my hours up, he said he would call my local sorting office to see if I can help out there, came back with a mail sorter, permanent 20 hours per week between 5-9pm, I finish my round at around 11.30-12.00pm so this would be ideal, I thought this would be great and he said he would sort it out for me, phone call at 3pm saying the job is mine if I want it, now is this the only great manager in the world or am I gonna regret it ??

Manager
I've got 2 take my postal hat off to him, I've really been struggling recently finincially and he came up trumps without me really going into full details about it with him, I really do respect him for that, I have been on my arse for a few weeks and didnt want to tell anyone but he sorted me this out and I am gratefull, there are nice managers but I do hope I'm not gonna be bitten in the bollox in the long run.

Full Time
I inderstand what u are saying but RM are not offering full time jobs anymore, not that I know of anyway unless your lucky and you are a driver, I dont drive, and although I was told on my interview there were chances to get 40 hours a week that was just based on getting overtime so I didnt understand that fully, so I told him that this morning but I thought it was good of him to get me this job, I love doing my round as I now know nearly all the people on there and they are a real friendly bunch, so this is perfect to me, all I'm saying is that maybe he is just one of a dying breed, I was told that he is o.k but I think in my case I will respect him, he didnt have to tell me this but he went out of his way to help me, and no I'm not a scab just was really concerned about supporting my family.

Re: Full Time
You would be right in saying that there are no full time jobs being given - however can you say if since the 31st March any formerly full time duties are now being carried out by part time postmen/women. For example has anyone retired/left the business and their post is now being done on a 25 or 30 hour contract? If so, what has happened to the surplus hours saved? They certainly aren't a saving we are going to see any benefit from. Beware the wooden horse!!!!!JAMESMARSH1980 wrote:I inderstand what u are saying but RM are not offering full time jobs anymore, not that I know of anyway unless your lucky and you are a driver, I dont drive, and although I was told on my interview there were chances to get 40 hours a week that was just based on getting overtime so I didnt understand that fully, so I told him that this morning but I thought it was good of him to get me this job, I love doing my round as I now know nearly all the people on there and they are a real friendly bunch, so this is perfect to me, all I'm saying is that maybe he is just one of a dying breed, I was told that he is o.k but I think in my case I will respect him, he didnt have to tell me this but he went out of his way to help me, and no I'm not a scab just was really concerned about supporting my family.
