Spare a thought for those working at Chelmsford RDC. Just heard today that RM exercised a break-of-lease clause on the Chelmsford site, allowing them to give notice to the landlord of RMs intention to vacate the site in July 2011. (The lease was originally to run until 2016, I believe).
So although RM have started a 'consultation exercise', it is obvious that they have no intention of reversing the decision.
If RM try to 'manage the surplus' with compulsory redundancies, then we'd better see the PEC standing up for these members as much as for those affected by the proposed London closures. I want proof that this union will defend all members before asking me to vote yes to IA to defend the London guys. I know, I know... "If they bring in compulsory redundancies in London, they can bring them in anywhere". But let's stand up for EVERY office, not just the big ones and oppose any attempt to impose redundancies at any site, big or small.

Do Royal mail own the land by the side of the railway line, as there is a platform with an old royal mail sign on top.
I hope things turn out ok for the Chelmsford lads.

Is this not a major mail centre as well,i thought Southend mail centre was closeing/closed and the work was going into Chelmsford, where do they propose to do the work that Chelmsford now do and as for the proposed date for vacating the site July 2011 seems a bit ambitiouswandle wrote:Spare a thought for those working at Chelmsford RDC. Re: Chelmsford RDC / VOC 90-Day Consultation period
Chelmsford MC and RDC are on separate sites. The MC is safe and is currently taking in work from Southend and could possibly take in work from Ipswich MC in the future.
