Hello Dingo,

I was unaware that MTSF runs out in 3 years time as this is not stated in the agreement. I would be very grateful if you would explain why MTSF only lasts 3 years.

Whats the new plans for DOs................something good for a change?
From whats on the grapevine here it would seem that van sharing was meant to be the first step in a programme to cull delivery offices.

Putting everyone in vans means staff can travel further which could mean closing the smaller offices.

Theres several in my region that could go and be serviced by a larger office.

Other larger urban offices could be amalgamated.

I think that's always been on the cards and I must say when you hear tales of the size of some 'em it doesn't surprise me.

Well the BTA agreement states that Royal Mail and the CWU will jointly review the VR element and ETE in October 2012 in light of the financial positon of the complany and the progress of the transformation programme. The fact is that Royal Mail believes that MTSF offers one of the best available packages in the UK and costs them far to much. Most of their business plans take 5 years to make a profit largely cause of MTSF. They want out. Lets see how it devlops.

This may be in the wrong place, but what is happening to Network 2011? Are the Cwu in negotiations or has it been suspended?

Theres a revision going on in my office.
for several weeks now. a rep the dom and the safety man,
have been in in huddles that we are not privy to.
the phrase "done deal" presented to workers for rubber stamping
sound familiar.
They will have a shock as we are resolved not to vote until we have seen, heard and digested.
Point?
I will never simply be swayed by a union recommendation .

Its my guess at tomorrow's Postal Executive meeting a ballot for IA will be called for as RM have chucked out the unions alternitive plans for Londons mail centres and no doubt it will be a hot topic later this month at annual conference before any ballot papers are despatched,i guess feelers will be put out to judge what level of support would be given from the membership countrywide.

:hmmmm I take it you mean an IA ballot of London, if they want universal support, there'd better be more on the table than that and it better hold water.

This country has gone worryingly right wing in the last few years, and the "great" British public never seem to support any kind of IA. You've only got to look at the RMT as one example. They get slagged of left, right and centre by the public every time they call their members out.

We need a series of hard hitting national strikes for as long as it takes. The CWU has got to stop fannying around and be brave. All the tossers on here who say they won't strike are lower than a snake's belly anyway!

Seems you've only just joined Rm ???
Thw rest of us have been cdrewed too oftain , be it by RM or CWU. When you've lost money for nothing then please by all means have a go till then might be best to hold it. :hmmmm

Dingo, that is devastating news for those in Network / RDCs

Just three to remain ???? That would surely mean

NDC must be safe (in the middle of the country, and a massive site)
PRDC ?? to cover the whole of Southern England, and
one 'up North' to cover NE/NW England and all of Scotland

and no future in RM for all the other sites ?

That's a lot of people thrown on the scrapheap :evil/mad

What sort of timescale do they have in mind for the closures ?

I really don't know anything about mail centres, where they are or how big they are, only the generalities - but if Royal Mail are suggesting that 30 can take the place of 63, even over the next 4 years, because we are already through year one - then what has changed or will change so dramatically to halve the MCs.

There were 70 mail centres 6 years ago (when i used to read the courier) so they have absorbed 7.
at that rate it will take them 20 years to make a dent in 63.
although ive no doubt they could jack up the rate of change.

i suspect rm have already done the easy ones

my other observation is (looking at the map) that some absorptions are obvious like
Gloucester swallowed by swindon
Others are less obvious as they get further away relocation/ milage packages get more expensive
The ones that must really have them licking there lips warrington absorbing Manchester (already absorbed Liverpool) or vs versa.

The Postal Executive will meet today to discuss the fact that Royal Mail have not met the union"s demands in line with what Branch"s and members have been told. This is not just about London all be it once complusory redundancies are allowed to happen it will happen again and again. The other issues which are at the heart of this is Royal Mail"s new business plan which you have to realise is designed to produce the savings which they currently have not got from BTA and to increase the savings.

Lets be clear on this , 30 mail centres works means a lot more closures and for the record all these mail centres have closed in the last two years , Stockport , Oldham , Liverpool , Crewe , Covertry , Milton Keynes , Stoke , Oxford , Reading , Guildford , Farnbourgh , Paddington. ( Sorry if I have missed any out ) Others which are closing and work being phased out are Southend , Dartford , Maidstone and Tonbridge. Now the other mail centres which have been earmarked for closure are South London , East London , Hull , Bradford , and four others in the North East.

Now Royal Mail"s target clousre plans mean that futher closures will take place in Scotland , South West , North West , Midlands , South East , South Central , Wales. Remember 30 mail centres will mean a massive cull of staff and if Royal Mail have already introduced complusory redundnacies then indivduals will have no safe guards.

In terms of the RDCs , yes it is a massive change and your assemenet of where the work goes I think is fair as well. Again can Royal Mail introduce this without recourse to complusory redundancies especially as there will be no opportunity to follow the work.

On deliveries the information is less clear only that 60% of all costs are on delivery so you can bet they intend further delivery office clousures and further savings etc.

Add to this th pension issues, colleague share , and the effect of what protection we have in regards to our terms and conditions including pensions under a new owner all mean that the decision which the postal executive wlll will be huge.

However todays postal executive will have all the issues explained to them and debate the issues. Next week the Divisional Reps and PEC will have a meeting and then the postal executive will have a document stating the policy which he officers believe should be agreed. This will be open to amendment and then the policy will be agreed and will then be explained to either a National Briefing or Annaul Conference considering we are only 2 and bit weeks away.
