On the one hand you say the "new plan" involves accelerating closures etc.
On the other hand it goes from being a 3yr plan to a 5yr plan.
Whats the new plans for DOs................something good for a change?dingo wrote:Clash their first plan reduced mail centres from 63 to 46 the new plan reduces it to 30. RDCs to 3 and new plans for delivery offices.
Well charlie, what would you suggest to be a reasonable figure for PT overtime.................say, for arguments sake, up to 40 hrs, many do now........which would, on an office of 50/50, 60/40 and some offices are predominantly PT, would give a lot of scope to clear work and negate a lot of the work to rule depending on the intelligence of the manager. Many PT are not union members and would be only too happy to cash in for the extra cash.charlie1 wrote:Consideration should be given to part timers if we choose to work to rule, maybe allowing them to work some extra hours, perhaps up to a maximum agreed with a local rep. A different time...a different outlook.clashcityrocker wrote:by fishtank » 09 Oct 2009, 18:36pickaname wrote:

The C.W.U does not agree to confidentiality ,they demand it. otherwise RM would simply leak the good parts of any discussions to undermine the strike.
Nobody would rail at a reasonable amount of confidentiality BUT what the membership was faced with was a done deal and an overwhelming recommendation from the leadership endorsed by the PEC after months of behind closed door dealings.............without the benefit of full disclosure even then. After that length of time there was still meeting after meeting to tie up the loose ends...............which quite obviously is still going on.fishtank wrote:A different time...a different outlook.clashcityrocker wrote:by fishtank » 09 Oct 2009, 18:36pickaname wrote:

I can still understand the theory behind it because that's exactly what an employer will do....but they kicked the arse out of it...didn't they?
4 months without a peep is not what even i expected in October 2009.
totally agree start on your time and do the job as it says , and have a rep with some balls to say to doms nobody works pass there time and no docket or days off which means no bullying or haressment which means you have the full support of the cwu and take it back and let the management go and deliver it and see how easy this socalled p&l is which by the way weve been doing this for 7 months and its a nightmare and still no payment of any sort, and by the way nobody has seen the rep since the start as he is helping to plan these immpossible duties with no imput by us , you dont lose your basic wage and r/m would be in total s**t , i bet after a week theyll realise what them in delivery do, as for ia this time of the year would be a waste of time and money, by the way do the reps and the top knobs lose there wages ,charlie1 wrote:If Royal Mail realise that its new implimented revisions are having an effect on customer service, then maybe any IA can be used to highlight this. If we are seen to be trying to protect the public, they are more likley to support us and in turn increase the pressure on Royal Mail.
Whether members have the fight for more IA though remains to be seen, the last agreement particularly the D2D element of it, has left many in deliveries concerned about taking further action. For many in deliveries the last deal amounted to a considerable pay cut, along with the fact this new delivery suppliment is picked up by some who dont come anywhere near close to even handling D2D items. Unfortunately this does nothing to ensure continued confidence in our unions negotiating prowess.
Is it worth considering a work to rule, no overtime etc. Many offices would cease to function properly with this action alone, plus it ensures a continued wage coming in for everybody. We have to be realistic some people cannot afford to strike, those with families and mortgages to pay especially in the current economic climate. Some will come on here and say we have no choice but to strike but invariably those are the ones who are in a better position to do so.I believe a work to rule stands a better chance of success as more people would be in a position to support it. Also if it does not produce results then IA could be used as a further option later.
Consideration should be given to part timers if we choose to work to rule, maybe allowing them to work some extra hours, perhaps up to a maximum agreed with a local rep. This should not put them at a disadvantage as all to often they seem to come worse off and again you increase your chances of a yes vote in any ballot.
I believe Royal Mail want us to strike, as said on here earlier it means the Union will effectively get the blame, the current management instead of being accountable for this shambles will be able to continue in their roles. A work to rule will crank up the pressure on them as their revisions fail to bring in the savings they require. Its time to start playing the long game but we need to show our teeth pretty soon and show we mean business, we were caught out before, lets not do it all over again.
