Managerial Bullying
Hi All
Originally posted this on my intro, but I really want this to be seen and hopefully some feeback so have posted here in Blue Shirts.
Unfortunately, I am here to vent, and to collect info from other "****DECkers" as there isn't much in the way of happy smiley things going on there to talk about!
I mainly want to put 1 thing out here at the moment and feedback from any ****DECkers (from earlies especially) would be greatly appreciated. I am referring to the management and their conduct, around the bullying and harrassment of keyers in particular.
I have experienced and witnessed numerous examples and know of a situation happening right now.
A keyer on early shift has been accused of deliberately damaging an entrance door at the ****DEC, I'm not exactly best buddies with the individual, but I know them well enough to make my judgement. Those "investigating" however, appear to have made a decision right from the beginning and are determined to find this person guilty, despite their statement and those of primary witnesses, there being no evidence whatsoever and in actual fact, having evidence proving the door was broken prior to this person arriving!!!????
I would say that since around Christmas last year, this person has definately received unfair treatment, they are always singled out and they have been dragged in and out of the office so much I really could'nt have kept count. I don't know quite what they have done to **** "*** ******* ** ********" off so much, but I know this person is not an ******** and has actually always been an elite keyer.
I am convinced of what ****** is trying to do, and I have seen this before. Has anyone ever noticed how full timers always get the **** end of the stick on earlies, how pretty much every stage warning is issued? how almost every stage 3 dismissal is passed? how serious warnings and the like are handed out like freebies? and how keyers are starting to be reinstated after ****** has been proven to have unfairly dismissed them.
The management on earlies continually make their own decision (sorry, or make their own decision as directed by ******) and then work toward it and fully and deliberately ignore evidence, circumstance and reasoning. Also how many times have you had to correct minutes because of omission of facts or inaccuracies?
There is a foul stench hanging over the ****DECk and it stinks the most on early shift. Anyone with similar experiences please share them, all this **** thats going on needs to be known about and brought out into the light so we can get it stopped!
Dignity and Respect, how about management chucking a bit our way?!
Plymouth MDEC, never will you find a more retched hive of scum and villainy!

Hmmm...
Welcome Dr Richard Kimble to RMC.
1. I am the CWU Rep on early shift and am representing the person you mention. I am sure you will appreciate that I am not in a position to comment on any case the CWU have involvement in.
2. I can tell from not only your language but your tone that you are a person who is furiously unhappy with not only the ongoing case you mention but also things that have happened on our shift over a number of years. This indicates to me that you are both a caring person and perhaps one of the growing number of people at MDEC that are finding themselves in a position where they are fed up with the way they are treated.
3. Over the last month or so I have had many keyers approach me and talk about their opinions on their own and others treatment by RM Managers. The common thread is a lack of DIGNITY and RESPECT at WORK. This gives me grave concern.
4. I admire someone like yourself that wants to do something about the situation and would encourage anyone on here to give you feedback as requested.
5. If anyone feels strongly enough then please feel free to PM me or post on here or contact me at MDEC.
GOOD LUCK TO US ALL AND HAVE FAITH

It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.

never gonna happen to many egos, to many backstabbers and to many brown noses
you think you have it bad on earlies you should try nights
we have some right egos, bitches and backstabbers and as there are only three teams it makes for an interesting time during shift hours
some one i know went through hell and back last year trying to help someone needless to say they will never come forward again
but the funniest thing i learnt the other day was a case of mistaken identity, they thought i was someone else and reported me to management for a thread that was started here on this very forum, ha guess you have egg on your face now
how did it feel printing off the whole thread
what power you must feel, shame it wasnt the person you thought though eh
pity you have shown yourself for what you are a backstabber

The very culture of fear you talk of is perhaps the key reason why MDEC employees must support the CWU.
There is an alternative to all you talk of and that is to say no through one collective voice. On the Early shift at MDEC you have an excellent CWU representative but he cannot do it on his own!
Judging from afar i'd say you are beingforced to deal with a couple of headstrong females who take massive offence to any opposition to their point of view on the basis that they do not have the ability to hold a decent debate. If you challenge them as individuals then you risk being labelled as harassing or offensive. If you challenge them en mass then they must stand up and take notice!
We must all realise that the managerial candidates at MDEC have been hand picked by senior management for the exact purpose of union bashing and picking people off individually.
I appreciate what dman is saying but it up to the good people working at MDEC to lead the way. Nothing was ever achieved by sitting on your backsides and moaning! There are plenty of MDEC members on this board, get behind reps like codebreaker and you can make a massive difference.
IF THEY WON'T GIVE YOU DIGNITY AND RESPECT THEN IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU DEMANDED IT

The challenge is difficult.
Standing as one does not work - most all of us realise that.
So we need to stand as many.
I have always been ready.
The time has come. The time is NOW. We need to stand up for ourselves, all our colleagues including the weaker ones among us that are diminished and run down by working in a climate of fear.
Please contact me and encourage anyone you know who is unhappy with their treatment to do the same.
If we do NOT make a stand and stand together challenging RM Management then they will continue to 'get away with' anything they want to do.

my sympathy goes to all those who are hard working and love their jobs but are bullied by screws and worse by stealth from the people that you are working with.
1. a true friend and colleague would not be so dispicable as to print anything off and take it to a screw.
2. a true friend and colleague would stand by your side and take the screws down the bullying and harrasement procedure
3. a true friend and colleague would advise you that unity is strengh and join your union that is what they are there for
good luck my friends at mdec from a postie who values your work and realises that your pay and conditions are somewhat lacking.
this is a battle that you can win

I'M CONFUSED BY ALL THIS, IN OUR OFFICE IF A MANAGER STARTS ANY OF THAT OLD BOLLOCK'S YOU SIMPLY GO SICK WITH STRESS STATING THE REASONS FOR IT. THE MANAGER IS THEN TOLD BY THE POWERS TO BE THAT THEY SHOULD NOW TREAT YOU WITH KID GLOVES OR BE TAKEN DOWN THE CONDUCT CODE.ONCE YOU GET THE H&S INVOLVED THEY BACK OFF DOUBLE QUICK.

I was on the receiving end of bullying by a manager(ess) and a colleague and a relief dom (nice guy) told her she was crossing the line and to back off. Lucky for her, she went to another office (I won't say why or where, as someone from that office may read it) and it has been great. It was as if a weight had been lifted. All I did to deserve this treatment was to question dodgy decisions and her attitude to others.

Sounds like you have a bit of a problem there on early shift.
Looks like the real problem having read all the posts on this subject stems from your management team.
I don't believe the late or nightshift is any better.
Do you know if there is any progress with the case for the poor person that has been charged?
What lovejoy and Codebreaker says makes a lot of sense.
It seems that a helluva lot of keyers are pissed off with what continues to go on at MDEC and pissed off that Managers seem to get away with whatever the choose to do.
'Dignity and Respect at Work' looks good on paper but does it really happen in the workplace?
I have worked here for three years and over that time conditions and attitudes from Management have gone downhill.
I think we have a choice to make - either sit down, shut up and say nothing or stand up, speak up and use our collective voice to bring about change. Change that needs to happen and needs to happen soon. Otherwise more people are going to be sacked unfairly and more people are going to be off sick with stress, anxiety and depression caused by the Management team at Plymouth MDEC.
Codebreaker is right - the time is NOW. Somehow we need to organise ourselves and stand behind the Union. They work so hard for us - we only see what they do in the workplace but I know they work hard in their own time. They get no pay, being a voluntary position. They stand up for us and in doing so put themselves in a tricky situation, making themselves unpopular with Management.
I think it is time we got behind our Union people as a whole at MDEC and support them to support us, we need to stand together to bring about the change that we deserve.
I think lovejoy is right - nothing is going to be achieved by sitting on our backsides and moaning.

Guys, thanks for all your comments - your support is very much appreciated.

1. I want to thank you for your post - it is clear to me that you are very annoyed by what has happened and continues to happen at Plymouth MDEC. I appreciate your comments about the activities of CWU Reps and that it can put Reps in a dangerous and vulnerable position. You are ABSOLUTELY right.
2. I find myself in a difficult position right now. I want to say so much BUT I do have to proceed with caution, solely as I am NOT annonymous on here. I will give some thought to what I can say with regard to updating on the person charged with damaging RM property and will post again as soon as I can.
GOOD LUCK TO US ALL AND HAVE FAITH

To All
Thankyou for the input guys, I know this sounds kind of screwy! But it almost feels good to know that others feel the same! By that I mean that it validates my feelings about what is going on and that this really is a genuine problem on a large scale.
I'm afraid I have to let you know that our friend in the noose has been affected so, that they have gone sick!
I am really finding this quite difficult to witness now, I am urging all of our friends and colleagues to post their experiences on this thread.
I would also like to suggest that you review any documentation or notes you have from your conduct/attendance/performance meetings and re-appraise the conduct and the content within.
I am not a union member at present, but with the situation at ****DECk I am signing up ASAP, I would urge anyone not already subscribed to do so immediately. The union have done, do, and will do so much for us and I know they will fight tooth and nail for our friend!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
