'one to one' with the manager interview

Post by stevepostman »

According to our manager last night in our wtl session. we will have to each and everyone of us have a formal interview with a manager on a 'one to one' basis and be asked a number of questions.
Also said that this had been National Agreed with the CWU.
Does anyone know anything about?
thanks for all comments.

If it was agreed then it would be cascaded down to us.
Do not get involved tell him that whilst their are these talks going on we have a period of calm so back off and wait for the outcome.
Failing that ask for a HR1 form because he is harrassing you.

same here in abergavenny s wales dude it was mentioned a few months back via work time learning that the dom wanted a 121 interview with all the staff but nothing ever came of it ! its a form of intimidation as far as i can see so just refuse to have one with him or just record it on your mobile phone and make sure he knows you are doing it

Sounds decidedly dodgy to me. There must be an ulterior motive behind having everyone in a 1 to 1 meeting. Demand a union rep to be in the meeting with you or refuse to attend.

its all to try and intimidate you thats all they know in a group they all get booed and jeered at but one to one would be different like the previous post said refuse to go unless you have a rep with you

If it sounds dodgy - it is dodgy - they are going to ask leading questions like "What time would you prefer to start", "Would you want a repick", "Do you have any reason why you couldn't start later - such as child care issues" - all of which are out of order.

They have been told by Leighton to back off on these issues whilst the period of calm is ongoing and whilst the talks continue - some ass wipes are obviously trying to earn brownie points under the assumption that there will be agreement.

If it takes the format you have outlined above, I would be very suspicious. This is not something that most other sensible businesses with competent managers have, which is an annual appraisal of work quality.
These in my experience are a two way process with a regulated format and are a tool for improvement of standards both in work done and the satisfaction and training of the person doing it.

They should produce a plan where necessary to outline the changes that need to be made and the support and help that will be given and are signed off by the employee and manager after and ONLY after joint agreement has been made.

A proper appraisal also gives the opportunity for the employee to voice concerns or criticisms of matters affecting his position and these must be recorded and acted upon within an agreed period of time.

A proper appraisal is conducted after a period of notice of the event has given both parties time to prepare notes and read the format of the session. It is designed to be a constructive experience and is most definitely not a disciplinary one and should not be used for that purpose.

The quality of the above as a way of improving staff morale and quality is very dependant on the quality of the manager conducting the appraisal - which is why, although I think it is a necessary method, I do not hold out much hope for it's success (except in one or two cases lol) within Royal Mail as the whole culture I have experienced whilst with them is only call staff into the office if it's a bollocking - otherwise let them get on with it.

Be wary -- if Royal Mail want to introduce an annual or periodic interview procedure it needs to be properly done - not the way they do everything else and not simply implemented without proper explanation to the staff and proper training and cultural improvement for the managers who will be responsible for the interviews. What we have here definitely not progress.

WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT WHILE THE TALKS ARE ONGOING THE MANAGERS ARE NOT TO TALK TO YOU RE- THE JOB OR MATTERS ARISING AS THEY WOULD BE IN BREACH OF THIER OWN AGGREMENT WITH CWU. :no no

It just goes to show that Royal Mail operates on a merry-go-round, wait long enough and the same idea comes around again and again. I think it must be 15-17 years ago that one to ones were first attempted, i had one and they never ever bothered again.
If you are unlucky you will get one and by the time the next one is due they will have forgotten all about them.

I believe the dums will be giving out the HAVE YOUR SAY questionnaires next week. Sounds like a priming exercise so we are lulled to thinking perhaps they are really nice guys after all. NOT !!! . Not just a bunch of manipulative propaganda selling halfwits.
