A new plan of attack has been developed apparently, today sheets were given out to each P&L pair, on it they are to identify how many tracked, specials and packets they have each day. This is presumably to identify actual quantity instead of the miserable guesswork incorporated into Georoute and the planners imagination. There hasn't, as far as I am aware, been any time allocated to this new discipline...................... :chuckle You somehow get the feeling that RM is in the middle of a tsunami and the straws are getting smaller.

We've had our managers tallying up all the above for about three weeks now . The powers that be need the evidence before they will accept the duties take longer than four hours . Last Wednesday and Thursday our managers didn't do any counting because it was really heavy and they didn't have the time :arrrghhh . You couldn't make this up . The week before one postie said he had twelve recorded , the planner checked the PDA logged information and he had three . It's comforting to know that everyone is pulling in the same direction to get the next revision ( version 2 ) to work .

According to Moyas piece in the courier

"Delivery offices in Eastbourne, Gerrards Cross, High Wycombe, Hull, Rugby and Windsor have achieved real success following recent revisions"

Anybody from these offices able to comment ?

Not a big list from 700 revisions (source front page of courier) is it

Did you say High Wycombe oypostie..... :whistle

Residents hit out at Royal Mail delivery revamp

http://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/83" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... ry_revamp/

A FORMER High Wycombe Mayor has branded a decision by Royal Mail bosses to 're-organise' postal delivery routes around the Wycombe district a “shambles”.

Ex-town mayor Jim Tanner hit out at the firm after the organisation's decision to change its delivery routes around the town to 'increase efficiency'.

The Terryfield Road resident said he has consistently received his mail at the same time, every morning for the past 20 years - until last week.

He said: “It's an absolute shambles. I don't call that improvement. There is a saying. 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.”

Frustrated residents in Downley have also complained to the Bucks Free Press about the revamped rounds, including reader Stuart Cowley, who said Downley residents “only receive junk mail every other day”.

He said: “The parcels do not even get delivered up here. You cannot ring them up, even if you go down to the main sorting office, they fob you off. It cannot continue.”

But Royal Mail insists that the changes were due to a fall in mail volumes and were required to keep up with competition from the internet and email.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “As part of our commitment to improving efficiency, we have carried out a re-organisation of delivery walks across the High Wycombe area.

"To help meet this challenge, Royal Mail has re-organised aspects of its delivery operations in the High Wycombe area, in line with changes across the UK.

“The re-organisation has involved changes to delivery routes and change such as this can take time to settle down.”

Oh glorious logic.

I'm not personally of the opinion that nothing should have changed. Some of the rounds in certain offices are too short. There needed to be a bit of give and take to balance the workload. But the old way was clearly better than the new. The results are there for all to see. Royal Mail thought they could get half the number of staff to do the same amount of work and they have been proven to be completely off their rocker as a result. The revisions were supposed to be a benevolent effort on all sides to progress into the future, but all RM wanted was 'savings, savings, savings'.

I suspect that their 'savings' have cost them £millions.

We went into a DM revision last Nov, we now have 18 MORE staff than we did then, admittedly they are without exception part timers BUT a job is better than no job IMO.

Exactly. I said a long time ago that every time RM try to make savings it ends up costing them more in the long run. Its about time they started using real figures then they might be able to come up with a workable plan. Altough i still doubt it. I could do a better job. No, really i could!!! 1600000 million letters less each day. Could be true. Dont get me wrong but yes mail is falling. Not as much as they say though. Otherwise it would all be working. But they also say we deliver to 2800000 points every day. So lets just call it half a letter per delivery point. Time saving negligable. RM view point, half an hour each spare, hence lapsing. WSM, might save 5 mins if you know the round. RM view point, 45 saved, hence longer del spans. Never mind the staff working the machines for 3 passes per round. How much does that cost? Never mind the cost of the machines. Had our revision put back & back. Latest one has put 8 duties back in, after management could not complete a duty on time! Fingers crossed ours might work now as they have gone back to supposed 3 & half hour duties.

Figures on the number of delivery points would be nice (are they in the annual acounts/report?), because that negates lower mail volumes in terms of time saving. Loads of extra delivery points going up in my D.O catchment area so any time savings that could be made by the drop in mail volumes real or percived needs to be redeployed. Now this means that as a office we are more efficent but not any cheaper due to savings being gobbled up in part of even whole eventually by delivery point growth.

I find it impossible to believe that with the introduction of D2D into workload volumes can still be falling at the rate Royal Mail are putting forward.
Even with a conservative estimate of 2 D2D per walk on a 500 call walk that's 166 items per walk per day.
If the your daily workload has lost 166 items plus the estimated 8% Royal Mail are quoting i will stand naked outside 150 the broadway myself.

It beggars belief that mail volumes are falling. I truly believe it is a propaganda exercise by all and sundry to undermine the postal service at the lowest level. No one in deliveries believes it and yet they are constantly bombarded with the argument that deliveries need to be bigger/longer because of falling volumes. If that is the case then why do the timings for the new deliveries not bear that fact out?
