are you sure your not me...? . the exact same happened to me just 4 weeks ago. im on a 20 and 2 new starters started on 25. but like you, i totally hate the place and am just waiting for the next job so i really couldnt give a s**t. i've also just had a really bad spell with the manager....hmmm, i wonder...?. i'm just waiting for the letter to pop through the door letting me know i have a new job, 3 weeks on the sick with a bad back before i leave. i'll get my money back what im owed from the robbing bast's one way or another. suck on that RM f***s !!!
Good luck hope you get the other job! If not at least you have had a nice holiday at RM's expense!
same here im on 20 hours n now 4 new starters on 25 hours,, but to be fair to the dom he now gives me 1 hour aday prep/overtime to make mine up, it all helps
To be fair would have been to be respectable and give you a 25 hour contract! How much prep are you expected to do in your 1 hour? I wonder if your DOM is going to pay your extra 4 hours when your on holiday?
You guys could try... juistsayit@royalmail.com
It's the same as the ask Allan thing, some peeps got good results from it.
Don't forget,a lot of local stuff does not get reported higher up enough.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
I am in exactly the same place. Im 25 hours, I live a long way from my DO and last month had to sell my car as I couldnt afford to run it. Ive had a transfer request in for 8 or so months (as I live a long way from my DO), after being told I had to complete my first year before putting it in. Im having to get a bus to and from work which is approx an hour and a half each way. Ive heard nothing back about my transfer. I cant remember the last Saturday I had off. I keep haggling the manager but he's, for want of a better word, a t*t. The previous 3 managers here have all been weak pathetic men under enormous pressure to meet unrealistic targets. Our union rep is just as bad. He always tells us part timers 'to just get on with it'. Its a joke. It was bank holiday weekend just gone and surprise surprise, all the 25 hour a week posties days off all fell on the Friday (so we didnt get the extra day off). Again ive battered the managers head but once again he doesnt give a toss. Royal Mail is by far the worst, most unprofesional company I have ever worked for and I am so unhappy. Ive been on the job hunt for nearly a year now and finding something permenant, secure and unskilled has been impossible. I used to think the Royal Navy was bad (I spent a lot of time away from home). I dont wanna re-join but if this goes on ill have no choice.

Maybe not in your office, but in most they do.
Your not supposed to prep d2d if your a part timer. Chuck in the last couple of missorts, redirections, kill off mail then tie up thats it! Theres no time or pay included for a box of prep thats been missed, packets or d2d sorting or prepping them into the frame.

The heavy flow of covering and expenditures on there behalf and the dispicable % agreement in which doing the same as a regular postman in doors to doors they get £12.50 on a pro rota basis.. If none of these part timers are not willing to stand up for themselves then I will. Something needs to get done to give them the foot in the door they need and deserve. Nobody can live on 25 hours aweek, but many do,and many do the same as regular posties who start 2 hours before, woopadeedoo, we still end up laying in walks because you cant finish them in time, and the regular posties wont move over and the company wont recognise this. We need more stability , we are not your skives to cover peoples walks when they are on days off, we are humn beings who deserve to be treated with the same repect as fulltime staff and this is not happening as set out in the rules,There is no room for career prospects here unless youve been with the company 100 years you might just be able to park in the depot. Somebody needs to step in a clean this mess up. They are walking all over you part timers and I feel your pain, Your left with unresolved work frames , miss sorted letters out on your deliveries, You are hounded by the public asking were the regular is day in day out, management talk to you like dirt and we take it? Y because we should be glad to have a job... rubbish. If we all pull together and work together we might get somewere.. Come on part timers lets stay together and, this is our time
It was your choice to accept a job offering a 25 hour contract, so perhaps it's best to accept all the overtime offered, apply for any full time vacancies that occur and stop moaning. Life isn't fair - we all know that.

There is no such rule or guideline as to what you do during work hours, you cannot pick and choose what there is time for and what there isn't,thinking like that will only lead members into trouble.
If you walk in and nothing is prepped you ask management what they want you to do and if it means prepping the whole shift...and the D2D's then that's what you do.
Then you ask management what they plan to do to enable you to finish on your time.
The only thing we have control over is our contracted hours.
20-25-30 hrs per week working like a donkey for RM with all the s**t the job brings for part timers?
Or the sameish hrs for slightly less pay working for say one of the supermarkets?

I wouldn't do this job part-time...not a chance,not on delivery anyway
Don't have much of a choice mate, unless I jack! Surely RM should put a cap on how long an employee should remain on a PT contract.IF he wants to go FT and IF there's enough work (as proved by the 40 + hours he's been working for the last several years)!
We know RM love this situation but there should be a system for preventing it! Please don't mention the CWU I might just piss myself laughing!
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

Sorry maybe i should have been a bit clearer in my post. what i meant they cant normally expect you to prep d2d and do your normal days work without you going over your time. My post was more trying to explain what you should be expected to do within your working hours. The DOM is within his rights to make you sweep the floors if he wants! But you cant be expected to go finish a walk as well!

In my office, you are.
Obviously I haven't been in every other office in the country, (in fact I've only ever been in my office)so I can't make sweeping generalisations. In my office each walk has duties allocated to it. Most of the walks you fully prep and deliver. Some walks, on certain days, get help i.e. someone half preps it before you get in. It generally works, although overtime is claimed most days (especially by me). The thing that spoils it though, is lapsing, which we do every day. It's more money for those that want it, but it's a pain in the neck. I just can't see how it's viable, I'm positive it would be cheaper to have someone do that walk permanently.
