Going by the way RM do things half asssed, you'll probably go in on the day after your contract end and they will either tell you to carry on or go home! :hmmmm

When my 6 month contract ended I had still not received a definitive about whether I would be kept on, despite there being a number of other people in the same situation who were all harassing managers and anyone else who would listen.

In the end it was the union who called a meeting and filled everyone in on what was going on and reassured us we'd be getting another 6 months.

Next week in WTL managers tried to attack the union for "taking the credit" about securing new contracts for us, completely missing the point as usual :arrrghhh

Also, 2 weeks later I got a contract for 3 months - sent it off, then 2 weeks later get a superseding contract for 6 months

I also heard a -rumour- that some other 3 month contract people had been taken into a WTL on the Friday where a list of names were read out with a, 'thanks, but don't bother coming back on Monday'.

I do hope your contract renewal experience is a more pleasant one.

I can see why the long term posties are miserable and frustrated, but from my own point of view its a great job. Once i get out of the office i'm on my own, and its fresh air and excercise. After being on the dole for 3 years, it will be a real pity to get laid off already. Do people often get often alternative positions/locations instead of getting laid off?

That's the whole point.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
