Never cut corners on stuff you should be doing properly, but constantly look at how you do things and see if it can be done in a quicker, better way.

Don't come in early, because it's a false economy and you aren't actually doing anything quicker.

Other than that, the best way to improve your speed from the sorting of the mail.

Interesting post wannabee, and good for a few laughs. :Applause However most advice we could give you, may make you quicker but is everything you shouldn't be doing.
If you're walking and sorting, cutting corners ( by walking over gardens or jumping fences) and door stepping packets. You will get quicker but then you'll drop yourself in the crap when you:
A)Fall over and injure yourself
B)Get Shouted/Sworn at or Reported
C)Get moaned at or bubbled by the customer you were trying to help

Best bet is Do The Job Properly and let your Manager do his job properly by training and coaching you to improve.
Don't worry about your timings, we've all been stood on a frame in an empty office when everyone's gone out!

The only dodgy thing I do is flick through as I'm going along - was never told I wasn't supposed to. It's a hard habit to get out of, to be honest. I'm more concerned about my terrible bike riding and the injuries I'm likely to incur by than anything that might be caused by flick 'n' sort.

When i first started . to get quicker what i did was note the last house on each row and set myself a time of 45 mins to get there. And i found by doing that I seem to always be there or there abouts. Plus i found it helped me on a bit when it was very busy. like a spurring on type of thing. I am probs mad for doing this though lol

NO! You do not do this. You do it at the door of the property you are delivering to whilst standing still. No wonder some people don't know how to do the job properly with advice like this. :mad

Don't bother prepping 1/6th D2D leave them for the floater.
Dump all missorts on next door's frame when he's gone to the canteen.
Don't bother re-directing mail just deliver them.
Bin all dead letters without endorsing the items.
Use your own car as a van.
Run on delivery.
Jump over walls.
Door step packets.
Sign yourself for all deliverable recordeds & specials.
Dont take a break.
Bring mail back for far places pretending you didn't know where it was.
Bring mail back for whole street pretending dangerous dog loose in street.

:arrrghhh

Sounds like this is from personal experience.

A few extras here.

Walk over any gardens.
Post any missorts, pretend they were stuck on back of other letters.
Peel recorded stickers off and post, its quicker.
Dump crappy small parcels onto the driver, if you have a keen driver then hide them behind big packets and scarper quick.
Speed on the road, cops generally leave posties alone.
If anyone tries to call or speak to you, just make out you are deaf and keep walking.
Drop your bag wherever there is a loop, less weight = quicker.
Anything left at end, post box it. Write wrong address as though customer put it.
Above all, smile. It costs nothing and a happy worker is a fast worker!!

Cheeky sod LOL......these are the actions of minority pmn in my office, they always trip up and come running for union support (from me) when they make a balls up !! :cuppa

Rofl, I've never tripped up, fallen, or walked into a lamp post while checking mail. Maybe it's just a skill I have

i do usually walk and flick at the same time. makes sense to me as otherwise thalking time is wasted. admittedly a bit awkar when youre walking at the wrong angle to get to the right door, or fcking painful when you end upkicking something hard and immovable.

i cross gardens a lot too, but only following the regular's well-worn path!

i do stuff like turning letters, making sure bundles are correctly ordered etc., but i still feel slow on prep.

setting targets does indeed work well. beat myself back to the office today by 10mins

If you're on a round for a month or so, you can save a bit of prep time by;

Not turning letters for packets. You have to put them in some sort of order when bagging up on the round so just remember where they are. I've got the memory of a goldfish, so should be doable for most.

Once you know where the redirections are, take them out of the frame and just sticker those that need doing.

On the round;

Walk and sort (RM will never be able to prove one way or another if you do have an accident)

P739s and recordeds are usually the time-killers. Try to anticipate both for those who are never in

Don't fanny about trying to deliver to neighbours.

As much as we'd all like to, don't get in the habit of chatting with the wrinklies. Sad but true, unless you've got a easy round

And 'ave a banana or two :nana

I never mark my packets, either. I can always remember them - god knows how. I can never usually remember what day it is.
