Re: PEOPLE WHO START EARLY AND WORK FOR FREE
P&L started in my office last november and some of the full timers still have this job and finish mentality imprinted in their brains.
Some of my colleagues think if they come in an hour before their time they will get finished before the finishing time. Will they learn? NO! The dom doesn't give a stuff if you come in early, you are given a contract from this time to that time not before hand and certainly not after. The days where you could come in early and finish early have disappeared, this is why royal mail needed a tool to design walks that were fitted within the allocated hours that were given to you. The problem now is the tool is not accurate enough, walks are too big, people are cutting off, and no one in the office wants to do any overtime any more because of this mess.

Re: PEOPLE WHO START EARLY AND WORK FOR FREE
I said it before but no one picked up on it but some people have to come in early because they are slower than average and wouldn't be ready at the same time as everyone else. This will not change when P&L comes in.

Re: PEOPLE WHO START EARLY AND WORK FOR FREE
As harsh is it may seem, but are they suited for the job now. They way i see it in the past it was easy to get round a duty without complaints from management and you could finish on time or even an hour before your time.Hitcher wrote:I said it before but no one picked up on it but some people have to come in early because they are slower than average and wouldn't be ready at the same time as everyone else. Re: PEOPLE WHO START EARLY AND WORK FOR FREE
If you come in half an hour early to finish half an hour early like all the flyers claim
....and it turns out to be a pure pig of a day, stuck on the IPS for an extra half hour, bulk posting, umpteen recorded...that kind of day....
Do you cut off half an hour early?
....or do you just bend over and take one for the team?
Do you cut off half an hour early?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: PEOPLE WHO START EARLY AND WORK FOR FREE
I used to come in early myself and do everything that I am against now, but that is because I can see that it is costing us jobs because if you were a manager you would only look at the time some people get back at the office to pouch off or to do o/t.
You would see that as being able to save money.
The other issue is that a lot of the duties are being made to look achievable when they are not. It is difficult to get people to change their mindset, but also some of it is because they are afraid of being bullied by management.
Of course it would help enormously if the majority of the office stuck together and did the job correctly, but I am convinced that unless the Union stop this bullying by reporting these practices at the highest level then it will continue.
I am starting to wonder whether the Union can or want to do anything to protect us.

Re: PEOPLE WHO START EARLY AND WORK FOR FREE
It's hard to admit your being bullied, and it's a fact that everyone has no time for anyone else. It might even be that quite a few peeps feel this way in a lot of offices, but won't collectively do anything about it unless the union makes moves to do something about it upfront. The CWU, in my view, aren't doing nearly enough about this one issue, and basically leave you to your own devices. Most peeps just won't do anything unless it comes from higher up than just an individual trying to bang heads together.
I have read of people doing this (banging heads together) as reps, but to no avail. I think there needs to be some national awareness made to all and sundry that we are not alone, and that everyone will be made aware of making a grievance. These forms should be made a high priority for all peeps to know about and to easily begin the process of giving notice to the managers that they will seek to use this option if they are going to be bullied by their managers to do work over their time that they are not willing to do.
There is the union, there is the rep, there is whoever is at any one office looking out for the peeps on the workshop floor, but if peeps themselves aren't able to let other peeps know within their group -- should one exist, then nothing will continue to get done. And should this be the case throughout most offices, then I would very much appreciate it if the CWU would get off their ars*s and do something about this to make it known to all peeps within this RM group that they will be seen doing all they can about it, so that most folks won't be feeling like they're left out on their own!

Re: PEOPLE WHO START EARLY AND WORK FOR FREE
Just seeing it from a slightly different angle, I am a day off floater, one of my regular rural van rounds to cover is one of these start an hour early, take no breaks and then run round like f*ck types to the point where he is done about 2 1/2 hours before me on that round, so all I get is "your'e late, what time do you call this, the normal bloke is here a lot earlier than this" etc etc from customers. Some days it niggles but most days I just bring it back and let my run around colleague clear it all up the next day !.
