Voters urged to check junk mail for referendum forms

Voters are being urged to check their junk mail carefully after it emerged information about the voting reform referendum could be hidden inside other documents.
Councillor Dennis Doe said he only noticed the information booklet, produced by the Electoral Commission and being distributed to 27m people, when he was throwing out junk mail delivered on Wednesday, April 6.
The nationwide vote on whether to replace the first past the post system of electing MPs with the alternative vote will be held on Thursday, May 5.
The Electoral Commission said the information was being delivered with other items to save money, but it had told the Royal Mail to make sure the booklet was not placed inside other pamphlets.
A spokesman said: “We are aware it’s happened. It will come with other stuff, but we are telling posties not to put it inside other documents.”
The booklet is also available on the Electoral Commission website electoralcommission.org.uk, together with a video explaining how the systems work.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Why??? Put them into the frame as per instructions, if it takes you an extra 5 or 10 minutes then so be it. I do my 150 per day like that and it only takes a few extra minutes, they make the rules and they have to deal with the consequences of those rules.jockstrapp wrote:You are kidding eh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1POSTMAN wrote:Please please please please please please send out an ops flash on this, and anyone found doing it/letting it go on with D2D's get's bollocked.

Irrespective of whether people place them one inside another (don't bother myself, takes too long) the public just see a meaningless pile of "advertising" leaflets on the doormat. Very few take the time to look through them, they just get scooped up and lobbed in the bin.
Given the importance of the referendum, they should have been sent out as addressed mail. It's been done on the cheap with the inevitable consequences - like everything else these days.

Re: Voters urged to check junk mail for referendum forms
"Given the importance of the referendum" - No, it would only give a different result in a few constituencies, and even then we would still have a House of Commons that takes no notice of the public - Iraq war, Royal Mail privatisation, etc, etc.Straight4ward wrote:Irrespective of whether people place them one inside another (don't bother myself, takes too long) the public just see a meaningless pile of "advertising" leaflets on the doormat. The referendum is just a con to give the impression that the government is listening to the wishes of the voters.
