Could you work for RM again ?

Post by Tr@cker1952 »

In any capacity having taken VR ?

No jobs anywhere else now, even the part-time one's you used to be able to pick up easily only 2 to 3 years ago are just not there. Ive had a lot of interviews for jobs made shortlists and stuff but got nothing.

I get the impression employers discriminate against over 50's despite this being illegal. They can easily get around the law by interviewing you and making it look as though they are being impartial but they have no intention of giving you a job.

Also with so many out of work they can afford to be choosy, they want superman for the minimum wage

The MTSF Agreement covers this off, (appendix 10).

It depends on what you got when you left on VR. MTSF States:

"Guiding Principles

No one who has left Royal Mail Group (Consignia prior to 4 November 2002 and The Post Office
prior to 25 March 2001) on the grounds of redundancy or TMA (on or before 31 March 2010) will he
re-employed or engaged by Royal Mail Group on any type of employment or other conlract, until at
least a period of two years after termination of employment has elapsed or ever in the case of former
employees in receipt of a an enhanced pension on redundancy, or an unreduced pension under TMA.
There will be rare exceptions to this e.g. BPCS engage consultant associates to carry out work for a
third party."

So basically if you left with a lump sum payment you can come back after two years. If you took your pension you can't.

No one who has left Royal Mail Group...
It's a 'group' thing not a Royal Mail Letters/postman in a DO thing.
If you qualify you qualify,if you don't you don't.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

To be absolutely clear, there is one exception to the above. That is if you come back as an "owner driver" for Parcelforce, in effect as self employed.

The relevant paragraph in MTSF says:

"For the avoidance of doubt, there is no bar to appointment of former employees, who have left by
reason of redundancy or TMA, as owner-drivers."
