Final Pension Campaign Material

Post by Geezer »

Please use the attached in your workplaces.

The matter of pensions is now fast becoming an extremely urgent matter.
The meetings that will be arranged over the next few weeks for reps will help to explain a little more what is going on.

Thanks

Dear All,

Pension Campaign Material.

Please find attached a covering letter explaining the availability of Pension campaign materials provided by LDC.

Also, PDF files have been attached for your use to raise the profile of the fight against pension changes that Royal Mail, Pension trustees and the Government intend to introduce with the move from RPI to CPI.

A workplace petition has been provided for members to sign and return to CWU HQ’s by Tuesday 26th July. This will enable the CWU to organise an event when handing the petition into Royal Mail and the Pension Trustees.

The Pension announcement is due shortly and members should be encouraged to use the email addresses and pension helpline to raise any issues they have directly to Royal Mail and the Pension Trustees regarding these changes and the impact on pensions now and in the future.

Could you ensure that retired members sections, PTS Branches, Parcels and POL reps receive this information by forwarding this email to as many email addresses as possible.

I look forward to receiving as many petitions as possible.

Regards

Jane Loftus

Chair of the Postal Executive.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I managed to download the docs. Unfortunately the campaign is somewhat misdirected I fear. The Trustee and Royal Mail have not taken any 'decision' to apply CPI instead of RPI to Section A/B members. It is entirely a consequence of the Government's decision and regulations (mainly under the Pensions Increase Act 1971) announce last summer and in the emergency Budget. The rules of Section A/B link pension increases to those granted by the Government to public service pensions and SERPS. In order for RPI to be maintained, RM would have to agree (jointly with the Trustee) to amend the Rules of the Plan. That would have funding implications and, in short, RM would have to fund the cost (for one year) immediately. Sadly RM I fear doesn't have the money (many £millions) required. The campaign would be better directed at Govt who have taken the step which affects many members of private pension schemes purely because their rules link to Government orders.
