If the ratio of part-time staff is supposedly stable to allow for the 75/25 split and the total numbers of staff is decreasing surely we should have less part-time staff than we did in 2009 and according to politicians :whistle we are now climbing out of a recession that we were deep in the middle of in 2009...
What's the difference between now and 2009 when we returned a massive vote in favour of industrial action?

I think members perception on the outcome of industrial action would have a much larger bearing on just how reluctant they were to strike....blaming it on other factors is simply ignoring the elephant in the room.

The CWU made a great play of Royal Mail's intention to de-recognise the union in 2009....what they failed to realise is that it's easier to let the cat skin itself.

I'd only support the union for striking if it was a all out strike, maybe everyone out for 1 week. People could sort their finances out, and i think it would hurt RM badly. 1 day strikes are no good. rolling strikes are no good. 1 week out would scare rm plus we could all go to Tenerife for a holiday :nana :nana . The cwu could pay :d'oh!

If we dont strike then RM will just shaft us without a second thought just as they have done with the shares. Striking is the only tool we have as an organisation so why not use it to inconvienence RM? A day or 2 pay is a small price to pay for avoiding potential forced redundancies and pay cuts etc. If you think the CWU gave us a bad deal with the 2010 agreement just think what RM would have done with no opposition at all!!!

industrial action could well be the end of our union.

a lot of staff will not forget what has happened in the last few years our recent strikes
were a complete waste of time, and staff lost have lost faith in our union + a lot of money.
delivery offices are in a shambles everywhere.the vote could back fire on most of us if there
was not a very strong vote.
you would be surprised how many staff would except e.v.r in delivery offices
with no confidence in mangement or union headquaters, it dont look good.

but i suppose another vote for industrial action and i would be outside my office doing
another burn,t bbq. one thing i could not do is to become a scab.

it would make no difference on strike action or not as its proven us that RM seem to get away with treating us so bad - i supported all the strikes past 10 yrs and when we blocked the system up and have RM right where we need them we back off ??? is this a ploy ?? it saves the RM money by striking and either way we seem to be in a no win situation ! now dont get me wrong i hate strike breakers and think you need to make a stand but for many of us we now stand to loose our homes etc etc by loosing pay - remember i dont know about you but since OT , DOOR TO DOOR , SHIFT PAYMENTS etc etc have been lost the wage is no longer very high and the job is very difficult ! its so so sad but why is it fair we go with out anymore whilst we see the cwu do nothing to look after our best interests any more ?? they know and we know from the last deal there are no more alternatives to bargin with and the way things look - example vans no longer being changed every 3 years, uniform hard to get replaced, old frames etc not being replaced, workshops being shut down , mail centres - the business is not looking good is it so what is left to hold onto ??? face it - things aint what they used to be  but at the same time i would proberbly strike and use the day to job hunt !!! WE CANT DO NOTHING CAN WE ?? !!!! :nana

We are all itching to fight but we must fight smart.

We will chose the time and the ground.

There are mixed views here. In my D.O 10% were strike breakers and crossed the picket line. Unfortunately this had a massive effect on moral in the office. We have too many P/T staff that are just happy to have a job and will not support the union,Many are not even members. We work in a time like the Victorians where workers are treated like shite.Everyone of us needs to do the job properly, no early arrival ,no O/T or scheduled, and certainly no favours for managers. This will give us a better footing for negotiation and no loss of pay.As duties get harder and RM managers think we are split they will bully us all they can.Lets stick together and encourage our fellow workers to just do there contracted hours and it will be enough. No working rest days/weeks etc for just a couple of weeks and RM will be in a weaker position and start to talk. Spread the word over the country and see if we can convince the doubters to change.

As an example look at the drivers, If they van checked correctly, put seatbelts on for every journey, carried one bag at a time (I`ve seen our drivers struggling with five bags up steps so they don`t have to make two trips) and stopped driving like jensen button then instantly the duty takes longer to do.
That's not working to rule, that's taking H&S seriously, which is what we should all be doing anyway!

Everybody should start on time, take a proper 40 min break away from vans/frames etc (when I started breaks were in the local cafe) do the job correctly and go home on time.
But you're right about one thing: If people stopped cutting corners, working through breaks, etc.. Then it would be an effective way of causing disruption, without loosing pay.
