All thats easier said than done. Where do you find a decent rep or area rep? They are all crap.fishtank wrote:whippet wrote: As long as you have a half-decent rep...you'll be fine.
If you don't have a half-decent rep....get your area rep on the phone BEFORE you go anywhere with management.

That's refusing assistance Clash.clashcityrocker wrote:The manager didn't say assistance wasn't required.
The manager said - do your best.
Is the manager likely to deny any conversation took place? The manager doesn't have to forge any record. A record of a conversation that didn't take place?
Only whippet can answer that but in this case it doesn't seem to be the issue.
Always good advice but in this instance...irrelevant since the situation has already taken place.Hence.....always have a witness to your manager's instruction.

Re: Willfull delay?
It wasn't the manager that said do your best it was the DOM Assist whom I assumed
would pass on my situation (more fool me eh!).
I spoke to the manager an hour before my finish time to tell her that there was no way I would complete to which I was threatened with willfull delay, "you took the mail out on delivery so you must deliver it, or it will result in willfull delay"
I will let you know the outcome, or not if I get shot at dawn
Thanks for all your advice.

In my eyes the manager's talking s**t and trying it on,you spoke to one of them before you left the office so that's it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Whippet,
http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 36&t=18943" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Print a copy of this off. It's RM's leaflet handded out by them at WTL. It says
You may not have a walk log at present, you should! never the less ask to see it, an old one if necassery. They all say the same!
ie. inspite of what your manager may tell you or your union rep may advise you you are allowed to return undeliverd mail to the office, but you must inform your manager!
Fishtank is right that they may try to instead call it unexcused delay of mail, but they in the first instance called it willfull delay let them call it that again in front of a realible witness, because it certainly isn't that. willfull delay is a crime! retuning mail to your office certainly isn't a crime!

You done this!If you cannot complete your walk while out on your delivery, contact your manager to make arrangements for your undeliverd mail.

What it says in your walk log is not subject to any imput from your local manager! Your old 1 would have said this, and your new 1 when you get it will say this!If you return undeliverd mail to the office you must inform your manager failure to do so may be considerd willfull delay.

Re: Willfull delay?
It's not wilfull delay at all, when I cut off it's usually when I have taken my walk out with me and had to take some back. I only ever leave mail in my frame if my manager tells me too or that is wilfull delay if you leave mail and have not been told to. Just because you informed him you are cutting off doesn't mean to leave mail behind, always take it with you as you rightfully did unless your manager asks you to leave a bit in the frame.
He can't do jack s**t and is trying to scare you. You informed him you might struggle, the next step is then his decision.

Phoned the office an hour before my finish time and told the manager there's "not a cat in hells chance I would complete". I was then told that "If I have taken the mail out, then not delivering it would be willfull delay"![]()

That is one of the most judgemental comments I have seen on here. Reps are human SOME are Crap, some are excellent if you had said exactly the same about women, Chinese people or gypsies it would be considered against the law.jack straw wrote:All thats easier said than done. If you don't have a half-decent rep....get your area rep on the phone BEFORE you go anywhere with management.
With absolutely no respect at all wind your neck in and judge people on their own merits not your own biased views. Ok your rep and Area rep may be the worst imaginable, its possible, but that does not mean all are. My local rep, my Area rep are both excellent and have help our lads and lasses out of some difficult situations.

What happened?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The effort our rep is putting in trying to get our office to run right is spot on . The way he conducts himself and handles the pressure gets my respect . Our office is failing again and a lot of mums won't be getting their Mothers day cards this weekend , you must be so proud Moya and co . The office managers have resorted back to the same old tactics of bullying and harassment . This is bad enough but the major damage is being done by our fellow colleagues who still won't take their brakes , come in early and take home their d2d to prep , a few of our lot do all three. This week has been horrendous , you could cut the atmosphere with a knife . We've had one walk out with stress , he's now off sick and another lad nearly walked but changed his mind after a 30 minute calm down in the office yard . There is a distinct office split between the free for all posties and the posties trying to do the job right and tempers are starting to flare .
A few weeks ago I was optomistic that our office was on the right tracks to being run right but now have realised that the managers words " take your brakes , don't come in early and use the trolleys " are just hollow and without conviction . I'll never be that gullible again .
Very Worrying times ahead

Re: Willfull delay?
Well I was called to the office for an "unofficial" meeting with the proper gaffer and the union rep. I explained my situation with the new walk and new (badly designed) loops. Also mentioned about being accused of a criminal offence
to which I did have a reliable witness and also spoke of harrassment forms
, which I was then told it was not willfull delay it was unexcused mail delay, just like you said (hmmmmmm! soon changed that eh!)
I was given a full explanation of what I should've done, a tap on the wrist and that was that
. The real DOM was very understanding and co-operative (unlike the learner DOM we had yesterday).

Thanks again guys
