no way am voting for a strike, or if i do i will need a lot of convincing from this union
lots of mc closed - no support from anyone -till london got hit,
i feel for them, and i know it may be compulsory redundancy, but the rest may have well been compulsory -
middlesbro and darlo may offered jobs at tyneside mc in newcastle, how far is this to go for a 20hr contract,
people cant afford to travel and wont be worth their while when t/s runs out.
I think the membership is spread over more than the capital.
nothing ever seems to happen unless it affects london

no i dont know of any compulsaries, but it is just the same when you are offered a job somewhere miles away that you cant accept,

NO ONE has as of yet. According to dingo, it is a certainty though.

and the issue you raised about traveling times in NE since MC clousures was explicitly mentioned i think by Fishtank.

I may well view it as a de facto compulsory redundancy if i found myself in that position too, hope your not in that position or won't be in the future.

had to get this off me chest, as a friend works at one of these mc's and was in tears

both partners work there, with 3 kids, and all that goes with that.
Childcare will be a nightmare- how do finish work at 2pm, have 1.75 hrs travelling, and pick kids up at 3.15

Well your anger is certainly understandable then.
Particulary bad with both partners working there as well.
Could they not have been accomadated under family frendly for earlier finish time? Knowing RM then probably not.

I should add in the intrests of honesty That i think the MC closures would have probably been worse for more people without the agreement, and i say that as someone who is certainly not a fan of the agreement, i don't have a good word to say about it this may be the first (it wouldn't take long to look through my posts to confirm that).
I appreciate that it has not in any way helped your friends. But i imagien some of their colleagues will have been able to take up the transfers.

Yes it does, it's part of the law!
Albeit not a particulary strong law. It's your legal right to make a request to be accomadated, your employer is not obliged to accomedate you.
So in practice it may not exsist in your office.
If you've been told it doesn't exsist, without your boss even looking at it your well within your rights to raise a grevance....I wouldn't expect it to do any good though.

Have compulsory redundancies been announced in London? That too is surmise at this stage unless of course there is more information available which is not generally available.

Hi Dvb - the figures given at the national briefing showed that compulsory redundancies wil be inevitable if the London closure plan goes through. As yet there has been no 90 day notice issued that I am aware of. In contrast the 90 day notice has been given to Operational managers.
