I, on a regular occurence witness some of our posties heading home before ten oclock, and not just on a tuesday! one guy in my office never finishes after 10:30-11:00 on any day of the week and he uses a bike! so i can defo say fours is achievable.
Where the f**k are these walks, some in our office are easy say 2 and half hours but if you arent getting out till missorts at 8.40, then lapsing 20 mins plus travelling time, thats still close to 12 so you are saying some off your walks are around an hour long!! Dont think so. :no no

Spot on son! Your just like us! Even on a day like today, nowt on, what with waiting for missorts, d2d, lapsing, biking out and back, its 12-15 before I get back, and my rounds about 3hr-330hr dependent on the day
Ah yes Jimmy - but you haven't had your revision yet.....................is it July? :hmmmm Try and get an old HCT Jimmy they are much more reliable :chuckle

Bus? No what you do is get a bungee cord and tie it to the back of a clapped out cycle being ridden without being checked and which could prove to be someones downfall, or fall down. :chuckle :chuckle

Cycles over 7 years old should be checked not more than every 6 months and more frequently if there is any sign of wear, I think it's every month.......but it's been a while.

People tied up and ready to go out at 8am? That's when we come off IPS and start prepping! 20 min break at 9, finish prepping then tie up and be on the walk for about 10.15/10.30.

Up until around 3 months ago it was all different, it was finish on the street in our office and I very very rarely finished after 12 - on Tuesdays I would be home for 11.30 at the latest. Now I have a van, return to office and barely make any time at all.

I never thought i'd say it but my attitude to the job has completely changed, I don't really give a sh*te now and just do a steady days work. I could still finish early if I wanted but now it's return to office you'd have to be retarded to do that.

FWIW finishing early, runners, no breaks etc hasn't given us huge deliveries, our walks under P&L are 3.5hrs which tbh is nice and steady, but we get out so late that we work to time most days.

That went years ago at my office, anyone caught coming back early gets given some IPS to do or another bag from another walk. The flyers with the easy walks who went home got caught answering the door with a cup of tea in their hands when the manager knocked their front door :nana

I can't get done early on my walk not unless I sprint round which I can't be bothered to do.

For a lot of the posties in my office, what really rubs salt in the wound is that a neighbouring office (less than 3 miles away) is still working the old system (not park & loop),
i live in that offices area, and i receive my mail when i know for a fact our posties haven't left the office yet (and i'm approx' halfway around my guys route).
they start at 06.00 - we start at 07.00
they walk with a bag on their shoulder - we haul trolleys
they have more managable (3.5 hr delivery) sized deliveries - we don't

how can RM (and more importantly any future owner) accept a 2 tier delivery system ?
i'd be interested to know the percentage of offices working P & L and "old" system, anyone got any figures on that ?

They won't but rather than pay for expensive extra vans and trolley's that take the weight off the shoulder they will just cut jobs in these D.O.'s and ramp up the deliveries until they know for certain that even the fastest flyer can't finish early.
In a couple of years you will be glad you don't work in a D.O. like this. :whistle

My office is job n finish, full timers have been on the same duties for so many years, they have it down to a fine art of finishing early.
Not always because their good at the duty, just because they know they have it easy.
They would never consider trying another duty, for fear of finishing later than their usual early time.
For me it's a double edged sword, if all the full timers came back to the office any overtime, that would be there for p/timers would be taken away from myself!
Many of the guys have the attitude of it's not their fault if RM cant provide enough mail to keep them on the street till their finish time. But many of they FT's are finished so quickly because they are out so early, and i bring that down to p**s poor management for letting them leave, as others have mentioned, FT's leaving the DO before PT''s have even arrived yet, and duties have still to be boxed up!
However....
It pains me to know that if your PT and you work 40 hours you WORK 40 hours, but it's always in the back of your mind that the FT's have only done a 30 hour week with early finishes, but are paid till 2pm etc!
Swings and roundabouts i guess, but there is DEF an element of fairness that i HOPE is applied to my office when the revisions arrive!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I need to know so I have some ammunition against my DOM when I query why some of my full-time colleagues were able to finish up to FOUR hours early today. This is not an unusual occurence either, it happens nearly every day , but not usually for four hours.

As a part-timer who has to work ALL his paid hours I am getting extremely pi$$ed off when they swan off home whilst I still have hours to work. It is grossly unfair. Surely with Royal Mail in supposed dire financial straits no manager should be allowing this to happen when there is still work to be done in the office. Would a manger be failing in his responsibilities if he knowingly allowed this to happen?

Does anyone know the names and seniority of the management structure in the PE area? I may need these if I get no joy from my DOM. You can reply by PM for anonymity.

These people have probably sweated buckets over the years to get better rounds and no doubt they work flat out when they are there. How long have you worked for RM? Not long I bet and so you bitch and moan at how hard your life is compared to others. Perhaps if you stopped wasting so much time crying about how easy everyone else has it you would get done a bit quicker?

:speak to the hand :so there
Total nonsense! Sweated buckets? Don't make me laugh! We all know back in the good old days where you jumped on a tiny delivery after working there a year. It's harder now than ever but some lucky souls do have it piss easy compared.

Coming in to an empty frame on a four hour a day contract is probably something you have never witnessed yourself. Ignorance works both ways Judgee. This is made worse with the knowledge that the full timer who should have this prepped pissed off an hour ago after his hundreth visit to the loo.

Finally, getting done quicker has or should have no baring on anything. I know people who fly around and get done early because they do not bother with signatures or knocking on doors with parcels. It still makes me laugh when people think they are skilled because of how quick they are. Of course people with a brain realise they are probably s**t at their job and carving it up.

Them the facts Judgee

Everyone works and walks at a different pace. If someone is walking too fast and finishing before you and you dont like it, put a greivance in, coz its not fair that he/she can walk faster than you.

Totally agree, why do so many people assume that if people finish quicker they're cutting corners and if they finish later they're taking the piss!! I'm sure if you got 100 posties to just walk five miles there would be a huge variation in the times taken!

It isn't anything to do with walking faster.
After P&M and again with BT2010 we signed up to an agreement to work the hours that we are paid and vice versa so....no matter how fast you "think" you are or whether you "pretend" you are a better postie than the guy next to you if you are paid for 8hrs...you are due to work for 8hrs.
It's the whole "beat the clock" attitude that has left the job screwed. :cuppa

No - we all walk at 4mph. Therefore to walk 5 miles would take 75 minutes.
Anyone who does it quicker can f**k off and lapse.

Now that is an interesting point.. As a 30hr contract I am often arriving at the DO when people are going out (8am). How does that work then? Why are they not made to stay in the office and prep or whatever?

That's job and finish for you. And also destroys the clear office policy. How can anyone pick up my missorts if they have left before I have started? And yet I pick up other walks missorts.

I often see somone finishing at 12:00 ; when I have 2 hrs to go. Don't get me wrong ; I actually don't care ; I work my hours that I am paid.... But it amuses the sh1t out of me that these are the self same individuals that moan the most!
