Re: Job and finish.....
In my office we do job and finish. i am a reserve therefore experience the really easy and the really sh** walks.i am also part time(35 hrs). I, on a regular occurence witness some of our posties heading home before ten oclock, and not just on a tuesday! one guy in my office never finishes after 10:30-11:00 on any day of the week and he uses a bike! so i can defo say fours is achievable.

Where the f**k are these walks, some in our office are easy say 2 and half hours but if you arent getting out till missorts at 8.40, then lapsing 20 mins plus travelling time, thats still close to 12 so you are saying some off your walks are around an hour long!! Dont think so.masada wrote:In my office we do job and finish. i am a reserve therefore experience the really easy and the really sh** walks.i am also part time(35 hrs). Re: Job and finish.....
Our office is ... insane, as far as this issue is concerned. When people are finished, they go home. That seems to be accepted. I don't know why or if it should be like that, but it is.
Many of the walks are completely skewed. There are guys around me who get out at 9.00am every day, and are finished at around 11.15/11.30am (the latter on 'heavy' days). They are full-timers, obviously. But even some of the part-timers, on the easier walks, can be done by 12pm, even on walks they don't know. Every few walks, there is a 'terror' walk, where the prep is never finished (and management seem unable or unwilling to do anything about it), where the mail is heavy (these first two points I'm sure are not unrelated), and where it's a struggle to get done in your hours on the heavier days (as in the heavier days each week rather than merely the unexpected heavy days that sometimes occur). Nothing seems to be done to prevent this from occurring. It's obvious where this is the case that guys who are finishing early, day-after-day, should not be allowed to leave until every bit of indoor prep is done, and should not be allowed to go home until every delivery is completed. Unfortunately, myself and a number of other part-timers have developed the opinion that there is clear favouritism towards a certain kind of staff. Without wishing to make an allegation of that sort, I shall allow you to draw the lines between associations in an effort to understand my opinion.
It sums up the attitude within that I was told, upon complaining about my prep (and explaining why I would not be completing my delivery on that basis), that it was to be expected for part-timers to have to prep the last bundle of mech into their fitting (as well as prepping the IPS missorts, the packets, as well as doing the redirections and bagging up). All this when some full-timers are already out of the door before the last part-timer even arrives. And, in some instances, where the first full-timer to finish has done so before the last part-timer has 'evacuated' the delivery office on delivery. Make your own mind up about the rights and wrongs (few of the former) of that. One last issue is rural walks. Most of them are absolutely enormous. I don't know what the idea behind it was, but I guess when they were planning these walks, they decided that they couldn't possibly be sending so many staff out to the far-flung regions of the earth, so rather than keeping three rounds at that, they stuck another half a round on every other round instead. In many cases, you have to book hours at a time if you're to complete, even on a light day.

Re: Job and finish.....
FT had the problem nailed - it's poor management and that will definitely be rectified on privatisation. There will be a stark choice and I am afraid it is of their own making, my way or the highway. We hear tales of "self regulating" in other walks of life but there is definitely something wrong when there are procedures as described going on.

Not sure privatisation will solve the poor management problem, i have seen private companies, that are just as poorly managed as ours.

Take BT, Electric, Gas, Tesco, Asda etc...................they all make profits and in some instances obscene profits............dead weight won't be tolerated, because come hell or high water RM will become profitable one way or another. It probably won't be recognisable as the business we know.janitor wrote:Not sure privatisation will solve the poor management problem, i have seen private companies, that are just as poorly managed as ours.

Re: Job and finish.....
We have job and finish. but we don't have job and finish early. Nearly every day I go home as soon as I'm finished, but it's never early. Having said that, I've just found out that some full timers don't do longs and shorts. They do 8 hrs or whatever every day, so I can only assume they finish early on easy days, such as tuesdays. I don't like it but it's not really my business.

Again why would i come on here and lie? most of the peeps in our office are out the door anywhere between 7.45-8.30 latest, apart from the people that sit around drinking tea and coffee.we havent had a missort run for about a year. and no word of a lie some of the walks in our office can be done in under two hours easy. i have seen myself go in at 7.15 and be out the office by 8 and back to the office at 10! obviously i ahd a walk close to the office so therefore no hefty travelling time. and i use a bike not my car!

Re: Job and finish.....
I was gonna copy and paste a few comments but i wont bother . I will just give my tuppence which im sure will annoy the jealous among you .
EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE in our office has been allowed to finish and go home after last letter since i started a few years back .
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THAT ? ? ? Its been working for YEARS this way .
Now my question is for those just ready to pounce on me . . . . . . . . . im ready for it and welcome it . . . . . . . . .
WHAT are we meant to do if we finish an hour before our time .
Go back to the EMPTY office with nothing to do cos EVERYTHINGS done ? ? ?
We dont do lapsing in our office excepts maybe 8 weeks in the summer IF that .
I welcome your comments and bitching and crying and moaning AND agreeing with me too .
