The North London reps did not accept that this was correct and they believed that the work could get in earlier on the second wave.
The 3.40 would be on an 8 hour day. London walks can be far heavier than those elsewhere. loads of houses converted into flats, leads not only to more mail, but lots more redirections and kill offs. When i worked in London, my redis etc could take 30 mins. Where i am now 5 at a push.

tragic to think that there are so many problems in scotland wales ireland and england between
delivery, processing, distribution, staff. yet at the end of the day if a member of staff gets made redundent
by royal mail anywhere in this country it is not the area or office or workforce whos at fault.
it is the management who have jumped on the bandwaggon to make cuts.
no one deserves to lose there job on royal mail it dont matter where your from.

There was never a joined up approach to the 3.5hr max delivery span belle, some areas who had a high ratio of part-timers were encouraged to move to a longer span even as long ago as 2007...to "protect full-time jobs"belle smith wrote: Why were you doing 4 hour deliveries 6 years ago when the national agreement had a 3hr 30min maximum span??
Needless to say it protected sod all because what RM giveth...they tend to taketh away.
A lesson our negotiators failed to learn.

Unbelievable thread.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Far heavier than elsewhere? Have you been to all of elsewhere? Loads of houses converted into flats,im sure Sara BeenieEdward Hunter wrote:

will able to vouch that this dosnt only happen in London, redirections? i do a delivery with 80 redirections and im north of Scotland.
Really dont wanna get into the London thing but if 3.40 is the spans they were gonna get(and could someone confirm what
exactly the less meal breaks etc equates to in minutes) then why is it the optimum delivery span in Scotland is 4.15?
This is what my office is being told to accept and i think the main reason behind it is to justify the expense of vans needed
for park and loop, shorter delivery spans equals more vans needed.
Now if London get(or were getting) 3.40 then good for them, but if in other areas the Div and Area reps are not backing
offices who are trying to keep the spans down then why is that happening?

isn't just for Remembrance Sunday or just for British Dead. Its for all people of all nations on all sides who make the ultimate sacrifice, irrespective of politics"
Of course I do not include people who committed war crimes.
Out of interest these are the figures for French causalities in World War 1 and for comparison purposes the British as well.
French: Population 39.6 Million Military Deaths 1,397,800 Civilian Death(approx) 300,000 Total deaths 1,697,800 As a % of population 4.29% Military wounded 4,266,000
British Population 45.4 Million Military Deaths 885,138 Civilian Deaths (aprox) 109,000 Total Deaths 994,138 As a % of population 2.19% Military Wounded 1,663,435

I am really disappointed how this thread degenerated into name calling as well - I go away for 2 days and adults start name calling instead of debating its a real let down.

Re: The truth behind the London Mail Centre plan
It amazes me the level of debate sometimes. I said one MPU and one office has a span indicator of 3.40 it does not mean the rest of London has.
Now what determines your delivery span is the time your MPU processes the second batch of mail and then when that work gets into the delivery unit. Remember you can only deliver till 3 so you work back from there the time you recieve your second batch and time it takes your to prep the work. If you dont recieve the work until 10 and your dont process it till 11;20 then you can only deliver it till 3.
So I never said that all London offices will have a 3.40 delivery span as all units will recieve their second batch of sequenced mail at different times. I know a lot of offices would want the work earlier so they could have longer span in order to get better attendances and stop the reduction of full time jobs.

Re: The truth behind the London Mail Centre plan
I know the arrival of the second wave of mail partly determines the delivery span, but so does the PT/FT mix and its thisdingo wrote:

.
that im getting at,theres a lot of stairs to deliver to in our office and some of the older members with 20 years service are struggling with 3.30span,so all we want is two duty sets to vote on,one with 4.15 and one with a shorter span which of course
needs more of the indoor time so leaving less for some of the PT to be made up etc They are not willing to do this at the moment.
Also the tenement study which was supposed to be taken into account is now thrown out as only applying to certain type of tenements.Do you know if London or anywhere else has used the tenement study to protect members and keep spans achievable?
