London closing, preference procedure, why bother?

Can anyone tell me if they truly believe that when one of our london offices closes we will have the option to go wherever we like? Even if there are no duties and no work we will have to be accomodated, because thats what we were told.

As my subject says if thats the case we can go wherever we want why bother having a preference procedure it would save them money and time if we just told them we want to go such and such. Sounds like lies to me as they wouldnt bother wasting everyones time.

It is complete rubbish I will ask postman to put up a document which explains there are not enough jobs. Royal Mail are cutting the Mount by 55% of full time staffing down from 900 to 410.

South London have only got 200 jobs in Croydon and Jubliee so they will 300 plus without a job.

East London has only 69 full time jobs in Romford so they will have 80% of their full timers without a job.

The fact is that Royal Mail`s plan means that 1 in every 3 staff have no job under Royal Mail`s plan.

It is also the case that VR will be offered at the sites closing and there will also be the opportunity to move to other functions. There is no way that RM will go down the route of compulsory redundancy with staff represented by the CWU.

Look all the Mail centres have had the opportunity of VR. East London could not get enough takers and the same in Nine Elms. Royal Mail want to make over 100 million profit from their plan they really dont give a damm if it leads to complusory redundancies. In their view its a price worth paying. They are counting on London being unpopular amongst other members in order to ensure that members dont support London. Why do you think they announced the London Mail Centre review nationally at the same time as colleague share. No other regional mail centre review has been handled in this way.

Does anybody know if there will be vacancies at delivery offices in london for some mail centre workers to get a transfer to as a postman?This is being mentioned at the mail centres,but we are all in the dark as to whether there would be many vacancies if any,and whether some of the delivery offices could bump upI have a feeling from reading this website that there wont be any vacancies ,as royal mail seems intent on making the job PART TIME in the future anyway.

Can you give us some idea of the VR package that was on the table?Did it include a weighting element also?

Every delivery office in London are due an intregrated revision so where do you think these vacs will be ?

VR packages are in the MTSF deal and the numbers they believe they need to remove by VR is 589. Now they are not giving VR to any part timers so they now need to remove 1 in every 3 people by voluntary means. This is in the worst recession since the 1930s and the fact that the retirement age is shifting as well.

There has always been a north / south divide and i see posts on here saying if london go out and the ballot go's national they wont back london...sama as delivery staff including myself felt turned over by the d2d element.

However we are at a very very big set of crossroads and now is the time for billy dave and every one to rally together and become as one .whats in the past is in the past and sh*t rolls down but if we dont stick together on this one then we are knackered. royal mail will only to gladly use divide and conquer tactics to let us turn on ourselves.

if you look at the 2010 agreement we now look like we are going to have to defend those terms however crap they are before somthing worse comes in ?.

i for one will go on the gates if a national vote is a yes no sweat.

Do i ask for the letter in writing from my manaer about being told i can be accommodated anywehre i choose to go?

I had a feeling about vr for part timers which surely could come under the discrimination side of things
