When RM identify problems, they idetify everyone as a problem. No one works hard enough! why can't you complete? these pesky child labour laws are holding the company back! If only we could ofshore to a country that doesn't have them!

That RM have identifyed London as a problem doesn't mean that it is.

Royal Mail is a business. Its purpose is to make money. It is no longer a service and it is no longer a provider for public service employees regardless of cost. Next year or soon after it will be privatised even the labour party would have part privatised. The aims of the membership of the CWU and in fact all employees and the aims of the board of management for Royal Mail are diametrically opposed. It was a folly to engage in a mutual agreement knowing that those are the facts. IMO it would have been better to let RM take whichever direction it chose and to fight each individual issue on a stand alone basis instead of which................well that's history

Somehow I don't think it will be gold the streets are paved with and the good news is I have decided not to retire. I may go on to 70 now that legislation allows it. If it's any consolation rocky I believe that there are difficult areas and hard workers in London BUT there is painted by some a picture that there is a special issue and that they should be treated differently. The job losses are tragic quite true BUT there has been an inevitability of the area chosen and quite deliberately and you know the reason why. It would be best to accept what is rather than press a case that cannot win.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

dvbuk55 wrote:Perhaps it just boils down to the fact that London MCs and Delivery Offices are overstaffed and underworked and that they have been over protected from reality for far too long. If there aren't any jobs then there aren't and any overarching objective is just that, an objective not a reality.
I was think the same, but would not put in such a rather direct way.

How can Royal Mail operate if these closures happen? Yes the volumes of mail in decline :Boo hoo! as some say. But there is still a need for staff in London, all the mail is not suddenly going to disappear! Pressure periods? it seems that the MCs will be running at 100% capacity all the time with no allowance for the peaks and troughs.

The cull has been happening across the country well before these events have appeared. Not by using CR but by intimidation , bullying and the digs that Posties have been subject to.
It is not Big Headline stories, it is the individual stories that the CWU have failed to address, Posties are pushed to their limits, leave, take EVR (When it was available) and work through their breaks, deliver extra for nothing because those higher up didn't take any action, the replies: see you Rep, See your Area Rep..........otherwise silence! These Reps are pushed to their limits dealing with everyday cr*p that the managers chuck at them, I feel the chain has broke, or some of the links are totally out of touch with the members.

I'd like to see the figures Royal Mail use to justify these closures, or is it another pen pusher on a computer deciding the fate of thousands.
