Responding to Royal Mail's announcement this evening (Monday) on plans to close two mail centres in London, CWU warns that compulsory redundancies look inevitable unless the company returns to talks.
CWU spokesperson said: "We don't believe that the closure of two major mail centres in London can be managed without compulsory redundancies. We also believe that Royal Mail's announcement is not in accordance with the existing national agreements we have with the company.
"In 2010 Royal Mail accepted that the overarching objective of business transformation was to avoid compulsory redundancies. Given the number of staff in London, today's announcement threatens this commitment. We have tabled alternative proposals are insisting that Royal Mail returns to talks to resolve this issue."
Heard it all before in NW/NW... Div Rep got in all the papers saying we will not allow this closure or that closure and what happened? this is what we get when people who used to deliver or sort letters try and take on bisnessmen at there own game!!! its about time these full time release guys realised they are good at arguing a point with some thick local manager but they are way out of there league with the big boys...
Would like D Ward to speak out now for the members. He speaks with a passion and i hope a genuine conviction to do the right thing, i dont think he is in his position just for for the money. As for Billy Bobs,... well... lets just save the world, help the starving, support our persecuted union brothers in despotic countries, vote against privatisation, and stutter on about the membership re-electing me for a further 5 years. I would not have voted for Billy if given a choice. I think he is the weakest link and way out of touch with the general postman on the street. We all have empathy for the problems of the world but we need to sort out our own problems first.

well i think theyv,e all got there snouts in the trough from div upwards and they wont do anything that will make rm think they are rocking the boat to much... thats why with the closures of mail centres they talk the talk but fail to stop any of them.
