mailsort sat/SDD disagreement

I may be wrong but Mailsort is sold to the customer as a guaranteed 5-day weekly service, i.e. it has to be delivererd between Monday and Friday.

Any mailsort on a Saturday is either late mail in which case we are failing badly anyway or next weeks in which case it can wait.

Or at least, that is the attitude in our office.

What we were initially told was that the ASAP (Blue Labelled Trays) mail that comes in on a saturday gets left till monday, and anything else was to be delivered. But since i transferred to another office inside our sector this office leave not only the blue label stuff, but the mailsort 3's too.

Our duty times on a saturday are 5:30am - 13:30pm including meal relief.

Are we doing it as we should or what ?

Cybitech,your start time are the same as mine bar me starting 15 mins later,and we don't touch Mail Sort.
Not sure abour ASAP (i think that's my DUM

)

But again,SDD clearly staes NO MS ON SAT,so can't see how other DUM's are getting away with pushing it out.

This is a very GREY AREA!!!
SDD was largely voted in because of keeping an early sat finish
"SAT'S SIGNIF SHORTER AS MS 3 NEED NOT BE SHEDLD FOR SAT DLY!!!"
(this of course was before the down stream access stitch up)

Unfortunatly it can be interpreted many ways, due to the unions lack
of clarity on this point some office's do and some don't!!!

Let's hope there is a little more attention shown to detail in this next crock of SHI*
they are putting together, It must be what the workforce as a whole is reasonably
happy to accept and not what the Union recommends!!
As WE its members are the union and if WE don't like what they come up with
then they can just go back to the table and work out something that we feel is better for us.
After all if they want the job, then, like us, they must have to put up with the odd
CRAP DAY!!!![/

I seem to remember a web page stating that the national agreement regarding saturday working specificaly declared that mailsort was to be "STERILE". took this to mean no I.S. no prep no delivery, thats what i do and have not been challenged yet.

as for dsa con, the TNT web site advertises various products as the exact equivalent of mailsort 120 etc., so why should we deliver it.

What i've noticed is some of the letters have TNT Premier on them,and some just the TNT logo on.
So Premier is the 1st class s**t,PremierSort Flex and (2 day),(3 day)is like our Mailsort.

So is it right then that anything WITHOUT 'Premier' on is classed as Mailsort or at least 2nd class.

Are we and RM being done here.

EDIT: Just noticed the Premier is classed as our Mailsort 1 and 2

So is it all Mailsort

Either way we have to deliver the s**t,but in reality none of it is 1st class

I thought that it was to be treated as 1st class as soon as it arrives in the MC at least that's what I was told

No MS delivery in Oxford on Saturday. Oxford ( Royal Mail House ) Oxford city centre office , can not even finish packets . 5 yoks full of 1st class packets undeliverd for days . Managers do not give a damn . All 'clear office policy' is not working in Oxford city centre delivery office .

I am not sure if I'm going to be able to answer all of this:

1. As pointed out there are vairous types of Mailsort. Almost all DSA (to my understanding is) primarily MS2. It is not economically viable to send mailsort3 dsa as the prices are already so low.

According to what people have said on here their office does not touch MS3 on a Saturday as the agreement (in most cases) is to deliver it between Monday-Friday. When I was in Ops we didn't put MS3 out on a Saturday.

On a general note all of this has to get delivered at some stage, so not entirely sure why people get so anti it on a Saturday, unless we are talking about later finishing and impacting on footie and other weekend activities. However, most MS3 seems to hit the floor where you generally have heavier postiings. Let me give you an example, I used to do a paper round many moons ago. At the weekend the papers were larger, but I still went to the same addresses and did the round in the same amount of time. Apart from heavy bags and screwing up my back it wasn't that much different. Can someone explain why a deliver round would take a huge amount of time extra? I understand that prep time would go up, but would it go up that much? I haven't been in Ops for a little while now, but the bascis should still count.

Someone else also mentioned that doing MS3 on a Saturday can depend on whether you have moved to a standard delivery duty throughout the week. This would seem to make sense. However, in my experience these national agreements seem to vary by office. The more militant ones get away with not putting everything in. Thee who shouts loudest etc...

One other thing to mention as a positive to management was that the bonus's paid out through SDD (however meagre) were in some cases achieved by fudging the figures. Senior management made sure that some offices/areas got their bonus even if they hadn't implemented SDD in all it's glory. Whilst a noble gesture, this may start to explain why you find local set-ups being different even within an area or even a sector.

I suggest someone goes to http://www.royalmailwholesale.com/ which is the face-off to competitors. Bes to ask someone from there what the definitive answer is, sorry I couldn't be absolutely correct about this one.

Never deliver any mailsort on a Saturday at our office
even during the strikes the DOM tried to get us to take
it out but we just all refused....save it for monday!
