Fair point though about a potential buyer/investor,and here's a thought..how can anyone take on RM without completely starting again,i mean, with a workforce that is completely demoralised/unmotivated and resentful,to have such incentives as the colleague shares(potential windfall

Re: colleague shares SKY NEWS. THE SHARES ARE WORTHLESS
I don't quite agree, there is nothing in essence wrong with the 'shares',but there is a major question mark regarding how they've been sold to the workforce,if the company is succesful, then it's only fair that we share in that success, the big problem has been, the executives will always command a larger share, and have already(largely)jumped ship.

)only to be told your worth nothing,is almost impossible to repair.

Sorry to disappoint you robd but the 3.5% was never guaranteedrobd wrote:Absolutely right that in the current financial position,Royal mail will be unable to fulfill it's promise of next years payrise, however the union already have it as a binding agreement,so i take the unions latest statement that 'there prepared to take whatever steps neccesary to get back on track' to mean effectively allowing RM to renege on this deal,as Fishtank implied earlier.fmrPOSTIE wrote:A couple of points I would like to make:
A. The prospect of 3.4% payrise next year is simply laughable and completely unaffordable, or so the Comapny will plead with Govt/CWU - expect this to be revised.
B. To suggest a crash from £1600 to 0 in the space of months is at best - incompetance, at worst, fraud/conspiracy to devalue the Comapny in the lead up to Privatisation.
C. 1000 Ops Managers going is a good thing and just goes to show how bloated RM is, (still).
On point C,i don't know about the managerial headcount, but in my opinion the current establishment are simply not up to the task of transforming the business, whilst i wouldn't wish anyone to be made unemployed, what concerns me more is there is no suggestion of bringing in personel who can turn things round.
Page 62 of the BT2010 (broken today - not Business transformation )
Approach to third year basic pay review
Both parties are approaching the future with a positive expectation that deployment of this agreement will ensure that transformation is delivered, leading to an improvement in company performance and a successful and sustainable future for the organisation.
Given this, there will be an increase in pensionable pay, overtime and allowances of 3.5%. This will be revisited if the average RPI for January to March 2012 is outside the expected range of 2%-3%.
Both parties also recognise that there is uncertainty in the commercial environment that may affect the business in either a positive or negative way. Against this background it is recognised that there should be flexibility to reopen this element of the agreement in response to unforeseen events which have a significant impact on the business and its employees.

Re: colleague shares SKY NEWS. THE SHARES ARE WORTHLESS
In plain English, if the Retail Price Index ( RPI ) is outside the 2-3% increase that is expected, the 3.5% pay increase could be altered after negotiation ( RPI down might mean wage increase down, and so forth ). BUT there is also a caveat, which is if there is something of a huge change for the business outside of it's control negotiations will be restarted with the removal of the 3.5% increase, and a more suitable alternative %age will be sought
Huge Changes for RM, could include ( and this list is not exhaustive )....The Rapture, swiftly followed by the Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse and Armageddon, or all letters, packets and postal items getting a tax increase of 350,000%, or even more unbelievably, RM deciding it doesn't want to honour an agreement any further with the scum it employs, and would much rather say the company is in the shitter, and if we give out this pay rise this month, we'll all get P45s next month when RM collapses

Colleague Shares
What's the betting after a bit of half hearted puffing of chests from Laurel & Hardy, we're offered £100 as a 'goodwill gesture'.
Taxable of course.

money grabbing unions with reps that are looked after well by management are to blame. our union rep is the only person in the office who has 12 weeks holiday a year and another 12 weeks on the sick does she get a stage 1 2 3 does she bollocks.unions have knew this has been coming of for ages but havent had the arse to stand upto royal mail probably scared in case the backhanders stop as from today i am no longer a cwu member. as one lad at work said your better of with the union than without them my words to him were shut up you f........ dick if it wasnt for people like you who let royal mail walk all over them we would not be in this mess. in a workforce like this people need to stand together to be heard that is not happening at the moment so things will remain exactly the same until we do

Re: colleague shares SKY NEWS. THE SHARES ARE WORTHLESS
The shares are not the issue....the issue is one of trust.
The issue is the agreement.
The much vaunted revision process has been turned into nothing more than a tabletop savings exercise.
The mail-centre consultation process is simply a rubber stamp exercise.
The plan for a 75/25 full-time/part-time split has been blown out of the water.
The "new relationship" between the union and Royal Mail is a farce.
The independent review into the bullying and harassment culture in Royal Mail will not now happen.
The pay rises for this year and next are unlikely to be honoured.
We have been taken to the cleaners by Royal Mail management who will now plead poverty...in an attempt to drive down our terms and conditions yet again.
What is really worthless is not the shares but the Business Transformation Agreement itself.
