318s
Hi bertie hope things are going o.k. for you so far
318s are or should be kept in your d.o.m.s. office and are breakdowns of every duty, what they do and when they should be doing it as agreed with the c.w.u.
Overtime is voluntary last i heard although you may be asked to peform it at christmas, not to sure about the bit at the end
could be the case as stated in your contract as you dont do sorting.
If no 318s,its now job descriptions as in my office.

It's in another post somewhere, apparently the newbies have in their contracts now that they have to do OT
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Working part time
I have nothing against Part-timers at all but as you all know this is all RM are employing now on 25 to 28 hour contracts, with no prepping or sorting. In our office we have about 6 new entrants already started or due to start, they are covering full-time walks that were left vacant due to EVR or the fact that a full-timer just left.Thing is some full-timers that are left are taken off walk sorting to prep the P/T walks thus slowing down walk sorting altogether.I know the reason behind it all is so that when the 'NEW WALK SEQUENCING MACHINES' are in place there will be no walksorting. The thing is when the busy period starts next month right through to xmas and with nights gone now and soon upon us the later start times and the fact alot of sickness in the winter as well as holidays how on earth is the walk sorting going to get done. These so called 318's aren't worth the paper they are written on because a couple of weeks ago we were still sorting to 8.30 and when i said to the manager about what the 318 says 'only to sort until 7.30' he said " the 318's were only advisory".bertie wrote:I've recently started with RM on a 25 hour contract.

With regards to 318's there seems to be a lot of differences up and down the country and especially since the SDD.
We mention them on here because it is ILLEGAL TO WORK TO RULE.
With regards to working to them or not and what DUM's say.
If you are working to your 318 or not depending if you have got them(am i confuseing people here)it does not matter.
If your DUM wants you on the sorting for an hour more, then so be it.
If you come in on time,do what ever sorting is in front of you, regardless of how long it takes,if you then take your break, and if you then weigh all your bags, and if you then use the vans, then 318's do not matter.
A whole ofice doing this will f**k 'em
AND it will in the long run save your jobs and stop more work being put on your duties.
As a rule,i haven't seen any in my office for years.

Overtime
I to am on 25 hour week, my start time was 9.00am when I started, the problem was the flats I deilvered to and there is a lot of them had a timelock on the door that went off at 10.00am, the warden never answered the buzzer and if I rang a random flat they said I have to get access by the warden by showing an ID badge (Which I dont have) this carried on for weeks with them not getting any mail, I asked my DOM if I could start at 8.00am and he ummed and aghhed for ages, now I just do it anyway, my mails already thrown out by 8.00am so why shouldnt I start then. With regards to overtime I am always asked to do it, I dont have to, they do try and put the pressure on you to do it but I just say, I'm only on 25 hours, and have to go to another job, if they gave me regular more hours then that wud be fine but I wont just do it to pull them out of the crap when all they want to do is go home.

Under family friendly policy and flexible working times, there is no reason that you can't start at 8.00am, see your CWU rep to negotiate it for you.
