Colchester postie trio hope to deliver special treat for Arwen

THREE postmen are running to raise money to help a little girl who has cancer to enjoy a dream holiday.

The trio are training for the Colchester Half Marathon, which are running to help Arwen Card, six, who has a brain tumour and may have only a few months to live.

Posties Kevin Stevens, 34, Nick Fleming, 41, and Sean Duffett, 38, hope to help raise enough to send the little girl and her family to Euro Disney.

All three have children at Arwen’s school, St John’s Green Primary, in Colchester.

Mr Duffett said: “The other two are pretty good runners, but I’ve never done anything like this. I’m hoping I won’t hold them back too much. The school and Greenstead Community Centre are raising money and we just want to add to that.”

The Communication Workers’ Union has also pledged a donation to the posties’ pot for the March 27 run. Supporters can hand in cash at the reception desk at the Royal Mail depot at Eastgate, Colchester, or give it to events organiser Toni Knights at Greenstead Community Centre, in Hawthorn Avenue. Cheques should be made payable to Arwen’s mum, Hannah Card.

More than 200 people are expected at a princess party for Arwen at the community centre on Saturday.

Arwen, of Garland Road, has had the brain tumour for three years but doctors say there is little more they can do to help her.
