Re: New level uniform order ?
Speaking as someone that usedto worked in the "rag-trade" for a number of years...
The red kagoule is not waterproof it is "showerproof" but it can take a short heavy rain burst, as I found out when I wore mine. I had the red fleece on under it and when I got back to the office, after my delivery I took it off and I found that the shoulders on my fleece were slightly damp but everything else was dry.
It is also the same length as the new "stormproof(?)" foul weather jacket. These are both shorter than the old style foul weather jacket too, which is a different style to the current one. The foul weather overtrousers are the same style and "shape" as the old style ones with that waste of an elasticated waist so they can end up dragging along the floor under your feet. I don't wear those as I use a pair of my own Peter Stormover trousers, as do a lot of other posties from what I hear.
The red fleece can get you "cooking" too as it is a bit warm.. so if you are thinking of wearing it in the summer months as some people do with the old blue fleece.. think again and wearing the kagoule will only make you sweat in the summer as well, no doubt, as it is meant for damp showery conditions really.
In our office we wear Hi-vis jackets over the top of the new red fleece, even though that and the kagoule have "Hi-vis" reflective stripes on them. The kagoule has the same Royal Mail logo on the back of it as the hi-vis vests as well and is meant to be Hi-vis too. The inner pockets on both the fleece and the kagoule can take a bundle of P739's and your Recorded papers too and the red fleece inner pockets are fairly deep too.
The "cargo" pocket on the LHS of the trousers is ok... but if it rains don't expect things to stay dry. You can just about get a bundle of D/L's in there (I put about a dozen in there and also the signed for cardholder too along with a pen and in my opinion the pockets on the "cargo" trousers are not worth using at all. They are too shallow to keep anything in really, so when you are on a bike or sitting down, things could fall out of them.. ie loose change or your "snotty" as I have found out a few times. The cut on the trousers is somewhat questionable too.. they are a bit on the snug size on the thighs, as quite a few people have found out, but they fit on the waist for them. Also the fabric they use for them is not the same as for the old blue trousers, the fabric used is a lot thinner and also like a "mesh" so it will end up snagging if you put something like a set of keys in your pocket. Stitching on the side seams of the trousers leaves something to be desired too. It looks like it will be under stress when wore frequently as well. Also you will need to wear that belt too as they only fastening on the trousers is a button, so if that goes "pop" due to it being poorly attached!
The shorts are basically a "cut-off" version of the trousers.... some guys have them rolled up a bit as they go past the knees on them.. so either they are a bit short... or the shorts are not short at all!

Re: New level uniform order ?
All in all RM have bought the cheapest crap they could get hold of.
Fleece with no breast pocket.
Waterproof trousers without leg zips.
Trousers with only one leg pocket (and on wrong side)
Cheap nasty belt
Too bored now to carry on lol ...

Re: New level uniform order ?
Ive got one of the new fleeces and found it rubbish! The inside pockets are too deep so it makes things difficult to find and the outside pockets are too shallow so everything falls out
These uniforms are supposed to be tested arnt they? how was this rubbish the best they could come up with?

iv got one of the thermal jackets... been an absolute god send over the winter...bringon4dayweeks wrote:rubbish uniform bring back the thermal jacket and harrington jacket shove the red uniform![]()

couldnt have had a more suitable jacket for going to and from work... just a shame its become a bit snug recently
was never all that keen on the harrington jacket, it was ok... but you had to keep ajusting the straps on the back so it wasnt too loose...
if anything... what they should bring back is the harrington liner/no sleeve fleece... ideal for the rest of the year where you dont need the full fleece or a stormproof....
