HOW DO YOU QUALIFY FOR IHR

Post by postie59 »

What exactly is the criteria for getting payed off due to ill health. Im 60 this year and have applied to take my pension benefits but am hoping to keep working till i can maybe find something more suitable for me. Im really struggling with my legs and all the walking involved and have continuous shin splints and muscle problems. I think i may have to go off with it and ive just reverted back to a stage one after being off with a broken ankle a year ago. If i go off what can i expect to happen regards my health problems as i also have bad carpel tunnel syndrome and am waiting to go to hospital for that.
Would like to think that i could maybe look for something part time indoors but want to know what criteria Royal Mail class IHR. does that mean that you are not capable of any work whatsoever or just the workload of Royal Mail duties.

I would find out if there is any EVR first. Failing that I would have a chat with your DOM and raise your concerns with him.

Ask him/her to refer you to ATOS, ASAP....

I've no doubt that i will be referred to ATOS with this problem. the thing is i have already received my options form for pension 60 benfits and returned it accepting them. will this affect any payment due if i was deemed unfit for work such as the ill health with lump sum payment? probably wont come to that but am just looking at my options at the moment. the private physio that i go to says it wont get any better as long as im doing the heavy walking i do just now.

No...You will still be able to qualify for IHR with Lump sum even if you are in receipt of your Pension.

One of the replies said to enquire as to EVR. Is that early voluntary retirement or early voluntary redundancy? Also what do they mean or involve. Sorry if this makes me a wee bit dense but ive never had to worry about health matters till now. Just took it for granted that i would work right thru till 65 but the jobs just too much for my tired old feet and legs now im afraid.
