Pity you have to see my previous posts this way,
Seems if one doesnt agree with you and your posse they are classed as a xxxxx
With YOUR opinion in mind,
im afraid al have to add you to my tally- Been wanting you for ages, thanks very very much
No. You just need to look back at some of his many posts, to see that you're mistaken there. As to your original point: As Teebs has already said, people do drop a small number of them by accident. Sadly, it can't be helped. And if the Council doesn't clean the streets regulaly enough (as in my area), they do build up over time.

I've no doubt, that there are a small minority who don't pick them up, when they realise they've dropped them (alhough the majority DO pick them up, if they notice they've droped them). But that doesn't mean that Delivery Posties in general, should be "tarred with the same brush".

How can we prevent them being dropped? :hmmmm
I don't know. But you're right. Something needs to be done. It's just a case of working out how to do so, short of Posties spending an inordinant amount of time, double checking that they haven't dropped anything.

Posties could be rewarded for collecting rubber bands to be used in pile clinics:

Of course if we didn't get all the crappy elastic bands from the MC we'd be OK :nervous

Actually, I was agreeing with you, but complaining about the attitude of the Hedgehog Preservation Society. I'm sorry. I should have explained myself better. The article said:
The Post Office gets through two million rubber bands a day while binding up the mail, and the society is to mount a campaign to stop its workers simply discarding the bands: apparently, curious hedgehogs get them stuck around their bodies, where they tighten and embed themselves into the skin.

Next month, the society’s members will be sent postcards showing such a stricken beast, and be asked to hand them to their postie or send them to the local sorting office.

The Royal Mail would be well advised to give in at once: after all, a body that boasts Ann Widdecombe as a trustee can be trusted to punch above its weight.

Which of course, DOES "tar us all wih the same brush". Sorry if I caused any offence.

Its a rare rm rubber band thats gonna survive long anough to kill a creature.
they usually dont survive the duration of my round without breaking.

iv got a woodpile in my back garden,a buddlia and a compost heap. :angel
actions speak louder etc.
isnt there something myopic about people who obsess about a single species be it save the whale /panda/ badger etc ?
well meaning as they may be.
eg if you campaign for more woodland you benefit dozens of species.

I try and not drop any,and as a reserve who covers lots of duties I notice huge differences between duty holders.I also try and pick 2-3 up most days and if everyone did this they would soon be cleared.

I think we all have a responsibility to keep our environment clear of litter.

I seem to recall that we were told not to pick them up if we dropped them in the street because they were a threat to the hygiene of the mail. When Leighton was appearing on a radio show, IIRC ,he was pulled about the bands and the policy changed as a result to one where we are required to pick them up.
If I have a quiet day I try to pick up any old ones lying about. However you often come across piles of the bloody things where the car users have changed bags over.Presumably that's a hedgehog -free zone now .I wonder if hedgehogs were interested in the non-red bands ?

We don't have to agree all we need to do is debate without the insults or put downs and we'll all be fine, I actually prefer discussions with opposing viewpoints and I think that some posters on here ruin their own credibility when they use insults or put downs to get their point across. I try hard not to do it and it disappoints me that some don't - BTW this whole paragraph is a general point not aimed at you specifically.

Back on topic - he actually said
But that doesn't mean that Delivery Posties in general, should be "tarred with the same brush
". - I read that as not him saying you tarred all posties with the same brush, in fact you had addressed that before his comment so it was moot, but making a comment that the public and the author of the original article were guilty of that.

Hedgehog

Named after its pig-like habit of rooting for slugs, snails and worms in undergrowth. Preyed on by foxes, pine martens, stoats and badgers. But also killed by ponds, bonfires, cars, lawnmowers, strimmers, pesticides, garden netting and litter
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
