"Unofficial Industrial Action" at Tynesdie MC
OK, had a call from my source at this office about how the troops there did not attend for their S/A on strike days is being classed as unoffical IA.
how can this be justified as unofficial IA if you don't turn in for your S/A???
Overtime is not contractual and if you follow the handback procedures as laid down in the local agreements, then surely that is your right not to perform O/T???
Whats your thoughts on this folks???

Yeah, but the local agreements were follwed to hand back the S/A. So how can it be deemed as unofficial.AndyK wrote:S/A during strikes would be covered as official, S/A overtime however is not the same as normal O/T as you should have signed an agreement to work this
type of O/T hence the extra money paid for it, this would mean even during your holidays S/A should be covered or a substitute found.

Had much the same problem up here with posties getting papered and banned for failing to attend for s/a on strike days despite following the nationally agreed guidelines for handbacks..have to watch our feet at the moment as there is a lot of RM managers throwing toys and rattles out of their prams.

My contract states that "The nature of the service makes a measure of overtime working necessary. For this reason it is a condition of your employment that you are liable to work overtime and to attend at varying times on any day as the needs of the service demand". Is this something that has only been imposed on those of us that started with Royal Mail only quite recently ?

Hi All,
Royal Mail are being very unprofessional, not just in the tyneside inccident, but at my office as well.Part of the agreement to suspend the IA stated that postman would work normally, during the past 4 weeks of IA our delivery staff stoped using their cars and assumed working normally would mean they used them again,so after a meeting they decided to work as per normal and informed the office delivery manager,he said thats great, but you cant use your cars, the conduct code will be used if you do so
So the lads are still on the vans, cutting off,the backlog is massive, the office is flooded with casuals(are other offices in this situation,we are a large mail center & delivery office)no overtime for delivery or processing staff, they just get more casuals in if the work builds up.
The inward packets have built up to over 100 yorks and is being shipped out elsewhere to be roaded, then delivered by casual drivers in hired vans. The RM are desperate to get us out on unoffical IA,my fear is,very soon they will succeed.
We of course have no idea how the talks are going between RM & CWU,but if it aint a good result, the natives will not be happy and i see loads of union membership cards being torn up.

I do not post in rooms unless concerned...I was in TGWU for many years ok, and rules were rules, but apparently with ROYAL MAIL / CWU every office seems to have a different set of rules.
Come on you big guys lets get all the goal post's in the same spot so we can work from, it can't be that hard "CAN IT "????
Then may be when asked to go on I/A we all know which way we are kicking against.....

Seems like it. I think you should speak to your CWU Rep.Lounge Lizard wrote:My contract states that "The nature of the service makes a measure of overtime working necessary. In any case you cannot be forced to work more than 48 hours per week averaged over a 17 week period,
under the Working Time Regulations: http://www.dti.gov.uk/employment-legisl ... index.html
