Millions of Census forms have been posted out – with the 10-yearly poll bringing 1,800 jobs to Greater Manchester.
The distinctive purple and white envelopes are being sent to every home from Manchester Mail Centre on Oldham Road.
A 180,000 sq ft base is being set up in Trafford Park to process 600m pages of information that will result as people return their forms after March 27.
That will create 1,300 jobs with 500 more coming from a new contact centre being set up in central Manchester which will deal with Census queries from the public.
The Census is carried out by the Office for National Statistics every 10 years to determine government spending on public services.
The 1,300 jobs at the Trafford processing site will last up to 12 months, while the call centre jobs will run until May 15. Around 450 of the jobs at the Trafford Park site will go to the long-term unemployed.
