EARLY STARTS 17 SEPTEMBER/Message from CWU
Early Starts 17 September
I've just heard that on Friday we will be receiving a letter stating our new start times wef 17 September.
Now I have also heard that this is RM wide.
If this is true then it would appear to go in the face of the agreement for no unilateral decisions and also against the agreement for a period of calm.
Has anyone else heard this?

Early Starts
I was told the only reason RM changed the start date for early starts was because it was a point of law they had not given enough notice for people to make relevant changes , so this was the reason and not the genorosity of RM. Maybee I am wrong but I do not think so.

we heard about these early starts/late starts..and as far as our office is concerned it is a case of exsecutive action on our bosses behalf..they are going against everybodies contract as youre start times are on youre contract..
so even though our boss for our office wants us to come in at 6.30 from the new start date,we are still coming in at 5.00 because it is against our contract to start at a later time..they are basically breaking the law by trying to force you to start at a different time to what it says on youre contract..

This came from a Manager who I have no doubt is telling the truth - however his colleagues admit to no knowledge of the planned letter.
There is an area managers briefing at our DO today and so there may be some news from that.

Later starts
No one seems to have an answer for this one, but i would ave thought until we get the letter on friday they won't of broke the agreement, they may also argue that the executive action takes place after the agreement EA starts 17th sept, talks finish on the 4th ?? still not sure though!!

RE LATER START TIMES. HAVING CONTACTED THE CWU PERSONALY, BELOW WORD FOR WORD IS THE REPLY IV'E HAD BACK.
ROYAL MAIL HAD PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED THAT THEY WOULD BRING IN LATER DUTIES ON THE 13TH OF AUGUST AND ONLY LIMITED COMPENSATION FOR LOSS OF SHIFT PAYMENT
AS A RESULT OF OUR CAMPAIGN OF ACTION THEY HAVE NOW PUT IT BACK TO SEPT-17TH AND SAID THEY WILL PAY THE SHIFT PREMIUM INDEFINITELY FOR THOSE ALREADY IN THE JOB SO OBVIOUSLY WE ARE HAVING AN EFFECT.
THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE UNION HAS AGREED WITH THEM OR THAT WE WILL ACCEPT THE 17TH AS AN ULTIMATUM. WE ARE TRYING TO REACH AN AGREEMENT WITH THEM ON ALL MATTERS UNDER DISPUTE, INCLUDING LATER START TIMES AND NOW WE ARE INVOLVED IN THE TALKS WE HAVE CAMPAIGNED FOR, THE ISSUE YOU HAVE RAISED IS PART OF OUR AGENDA
SIGNED NOEL McLEAN ACTING ASSISTANT SECRETARY
SO THERE YOU HAVE IT. THE UNION SAYS IT HAS NOT ACCEPTED IT AND ROYAL MAIL SAYS IT STARTS ON THE 17TH. FORM YOUR OWN OPINION I HAVE!!!
