Yes, you're right about them being able to track people down if they've done something illegal. And in some cases, they can even work out who people are from clues in their posts. But the fact is: Unless you "give the game away" by posting things that only a limited number of people could know, or state where you work, and it's a fairly small site. It's virtually impossible to work out who we are, unless they get a Warrant for the site in question (not happened so far on RMC, although it HAS happened elsewhere). And they could only do that, if someone breaks the Law. :hmmmm

If RM had an issue with being called liars over mail volumes then all that would need to happen is to count a couple of trays and see if there's 150 letters in there.
It's not libel if it's true.

That's a very good point. And you're right. I should have made it plain in my original post, that it's vital to be careful of your identity, if you want to be able to post information that RM don't want in the Public Domain. Sorry.

True BUT where are RM representing mail volumes as an absolute fact? I think that most people would find it entirely reasonable that the figure were guessimates. Would it be reasonable for RM to count every letter/flat/parcel etc that enters the network??

Sorry, not being an apologist for RM.... honest!

WTL every week starts with the phrase "Volumes are down by (insert anything from 0.5% to 3.9%) on last year..."
They seem like absolute numbers, based on something I assume?
RM know how many stamps they sell and how much businesses are paying them. RM pay tax and their books are audited. Working with guesstimates suits RM but the real numbers exist.

This "volumes are down" propoganda really winds me up...

Volume is a is a 3-dimensional measurement, so when this rubbish is spouted, I think of staff measuring the length/width/depth of each item of mail.

When is higher management going to made to quantify mail delivery by weight? Its a damn sight easier to place a known weight york containing a known weight of trays on the depot weigh bridge, in order to discover the weight of mail in that york, rather than have all letters and packets counted!

More weight> more inertia > slower speed of travel by postie > more pressure on body carrying mail in pouch or pushing mail in trolley > walk takes longer to deliver > increased likelihood of long term health issues

Apparently from the tone of their posts there are at least some members who if they do not believe that as a fact, they do use put downs to anyone who questions falling volumes.

To clarify..... Unfortunately your belief that ANYTHING posted here or come to think of it anywhere on the internet is anonymous is hugely wide of the mark as a number of posters on various other forum i.e Twitter have found to their cost. If RM felt the need to identify a poster then like IB wanting to search your house they could do it with ease.

I say this because I don't want anyone to post something that could potentially get them the sack under the impression that they could do it anonymously and without recourse....they CAN"T

The ib have no more power than you or i they need a search warrant obtainable only from a magistrate and police presence to enter your home or search you car etc... if your stupid enough to put things on an open forum such as face book, twitter that identifys who you are then you deserve to be sussed

Ive found attendance calls are on the increase, I average double what I used to get a few years ago. Letter mail may be slightly down but A4 seems to be holding up. Packets are up especially the DVD's and CD's that go straight through the letterbox. Overall certainly no time reduction on my duty compared to when it was set up in its current incarnation in 2008.

The problem is that revisions are now based on what volume comes into our DO's and that figure is 100% wrong.
It's not out by a few hundred items it's out by thousands.

Any figures given out at WTL sessions is bullshit.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Clarification on annonymity on here.

Post by andy2007 »

As myself, and Axeman have already said: the IB (and even the Police for that matter) can only get a warrant for your identity on a Website, if you've committed a crime. There is ONE exception to this, and only one: If you're suspected of terrorist activity (which would be investigated by a specialist team, rather than IB or local Police). And I've yet to see a single post on here, which would fall into that category.

So all you have to do to be safe on here, is:
1) Don't tell anyone in the Real World, what your Username is.
2) Don't post anything which could identify you.
3) Don't post anything illegal.

If you follow those suggestions, then they can't find out who you are. And if they don't know who you are, they can't discipline you, can they? :hmmmm

3) Don't post anything illegal. Errrm, not entirely sure....... :pray :pray :pray
Cheers for the advice, andy, shame it's about 3 or 4 years too late for me!

And me too! :d'oh! I got into trouble a few years ago, because of something I posted on here. But I've transferred since then, and so far, no-one knows who I am on here. And with any luck, they won't find out.
