DT10 posties Watch out for this Rubix Cube

Can I be prosecuted for wasting Royal Mail time?
Here’s one I made earlier. A Rubik’s Cube (which I bought, £4.99, bargain) covered in trimmed British postal stamps, different denominations to correspond with the six different colours on the cube.
After writing the address in a spread-out fashion (covering several sides), I screwed the puzzle up and threw it in the postbox (one of those shaft-based parcel boxes)
I can honestly say that I’m not expecting it to reach it’s destination by tomorrow lunchtime.

Here’s one I made earlier. I took one of his crappy illustrations, screwed it up and used it as bog paper.
I can honestly say that I’m expecting it to reach its destination (sewage treatment plant) by tomorrow lunchtime.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

He placed the cube inside a clear plastic bag with new postage on the outside. He plans to post it tomorrow morning, and his intention is not to irritate anybody. Frankly, he'd be surprised if it even arrives.Wessex wrote:I'm sure it would have arrived , unfortunately those are all used stamps. Is it an offence to reuse stamps I wonder.

Didn't someone do something similar last year using puzzles and clues to see if they would reach their destination.alexwoollam wrote:Straight4ward wrote:Can I be prosecuted for wasting Ed Fairburn’s time?

Re: DT10 posties Watch out for this Rubix Cube
As you might have guessed, I'm not "Steven Davies", I'm Ed Fairburn.
I'd be happy for this thread to remain.
This whole project is the first "public art" I've ever created. I'm a young student, 21, not professional, and my name isn't huge in the creative world. Mail art started out as something of a small uni-related project, one which I was reluctant to start, but soon after creating the first envelope (which isn't on my blog, as well as many others), I got pretty hooked, and since then, it's become a passion. I may have joked about it once or twice to my friends, but I've truly never intended to offend or hinder the efforts of the Royal Mail (in fact, everything I've sent in the past has arrived incredibly efficiently). Actually, I've always wanted the opposite. I've often tried to imagine what it would be like to work in a sorting office, and although I picture most of it being done by machine (am I right?) bills, statements etc., I realise that there ARE real people on 9-5 jobs who sort through the tough cookies. I thought, isn't it great that I'm sharing my work with them? They probably couldn't care less, yet I was still satisfied with my platform of work.
I'd like to thank the original poster for sharing my illustrations with the community here. I'll admit the negative criticism has shaken me a little, particularly the references to the illegality of re-using stamps (which I never realised was an offence in such a creative context)
Like I said, this is my first taste of public art. And I quite like it.

Harriet Russell, she's a bit of an idol of mine. Love her work to bits, all of it mind, the work you're referring to, her book "Envelopes" is just a portion of her more conceptual art. She now illustrates editorial for magazines, books and newspapers.fishtank wrote:Didn't someone do something similar last year using puzzles and clues to see if they would reach their destination.alexwoollam wrote:Straight4ward wrote:Can I be prosecuted for wasting Ed Fairburn’s time?

As an art student you should be aware that all art attracts negative criticism...as far as re-using the stamps, that's fine as long as you don't try to use them to pay for the postage.StevenDavies wrote: I'll admit the negative criticism has shaken me a little, particularly the references to the illegality of re-using stamps (which I never realised was an offence in such a creative context)

It's actually quite a neat idea but i've never been able to solve the rubix cube without a hammer.

TBH I'd make sure you know the phone number for the RLC because that's where it will end up.............unless you put a return address on it
