Re: volumes of mail
On Wednesday this week i got one fairly long road and a couple of small ones in one bag weighing 14kg. The next day i got about half that amount in a bag weighing bang on 16kg. When the dom overheard me he said "the figures are down on yesterday" Absolute bollox.

Re: volumes of mail
We seem to be getting heavy weeks and light weeks.
Heavier at the beginning of the month, tails off towards week 4 of the month, Weds tend to be heaviest for packets, Fridays for flats ( 3 trays today).
Have to say some Mondays it's hardly worth going out it's so light, Tuedays is pretty much the same

Re: volumes of mail
I agree. For some reason management cannot get walk sort and flats out on a Monday & Tuesday and we end up having to struggle round at the end of the week, and not expected to do overtime. Why can they not even out the working week by spreading walk sort etc out over the week, or is there some hidden agenda behind this.

Re: volumes of mail
Are the trays of walk sequenced/walk sorted letters filled automatically by the machines or manually?milnzer15 wrote:Yeah,we've had 150 items per tray rammed down our throats all over the xmas period and beyond, counted 3 trays myself while sorting with all 3 coming back over the 300 mark!! If they are filled by the machines then its clearly yet more fraud by RM management underestimating our workload.
If they are filled manually then can our colleagues in the MC's please stop cramming twice as many letters in them as they're supposed to hold.

Re: volumes of mail
The volumes fluctuate from day to day ,obviously tuesday's are generally lighter than Thursday and Friday's,and I do think volumes of letters are in slight decline.
But all I know is my bags are generally heavier now than at anytime since I joined RM 5 years ago.Especially when you consider the unbelievable amount of packets, bulky flats and the 4-5 loads of D2Ds most posties have to carry with them nowadays.

Re: volumes of mail
I have counted the number of letters in my coded trays its often 300-350ish
packed so tight you turn the tray over and sometimes they dont fall out!
I usually get 2 and a half trays of coded on the first delivery.

Re: volumes of mail
Our managers are now counting the mail coming into the office and the figures don't match the ones they're given from above.skull wrote:George door to dawes wrote:Honestly i would assume mail is down but probably not as much as they try to sell us. The problem is letters are down but i wonder what the volumes are like for door to doors and parcels / packets?!
Until we know what they are counting it's a matter of how long is a peice of string .
For instance we're told there are 150 packets in a shroud, managers counted a couple and they were 225+. The official figure for flats is 80 per box, the actual count is averaging 120+.
Last week the total figure we were given for a days mail was 50,000 items, we actually had 74,000.
I actually do think letters are down from a couple of years ago, but overall bulk and weight are up due to packets/magazines and delivery span is at least as long, if not longer.
That's why volumes are dropping so much - the figures seem to be a bit on the shifty side.

Exactly. Although RM don't like people to say things like that. But I wouldn't worry about it, as they don't know who you really are. That's the advantage of annonymous sites like this.WHITEANT wrote:If it wasnt true FACTS i wouldnt print

Re: volumes of mail
To clarify..... Unfortunately your belief that ANYTHING posted here or come to think of it anywhere on the internet is anonymous is hugely wide of the mark as a number of posters on various other forum i.e Twitter have found to their cost. If RM felt the need to identify a poster then like IB wanting to search your house they could do it with ease.andy2007 wrote: That's the advantage of annonymous sites like this.
I say this because I don't want anyone to post something that could potentially get them the sack under the impression that they could do it anonymously and without recourse....they CAN"T
