It's simple really. Royal Mail put forward their plan for the future and the CWU for whatever reason bought into it.

There was insufficient thought put into the detail, there was insufficient trialling of the systems, there has been an unholy rush to incorporate the DM without first evaluating the results of the existing revisions, the union have failed to monitor the changes and insist that everything is going according to plan when clearly it isn't.

The management are now betwixt and between. They are semi locked into an agreement they no longer want to honour because privatisation is round the corner so they are now trying to mark time and make cuts instead of honouring the agreement.
:Applause :Applause :Applause

This is exactly the reality we are facing because of the lack of foresight on both sides.

CWU need to learn from past mistakes and ACT NOW to prevent RM doing what they have always done - RENEGE ON AGREEMENTS

P&M 2010 is dead in Royal Mails eyes as it has/is/will take too long and wont reap the savings they require.

Watch as RM do what they have done for the last decade. Slowly undermine the agreement at local level and laugh as CWU at national level refuse to admit local reps have problems.

I can see another battle looming

In my region any OT in deliveries can now only be authorised by a DSM, in some units you have SB9 DOMs on a pretty decent salary who cannot authorise OT and if there is a need for authorisation at the last minute you, or customer, have no chance. Compile this with the threat of willful delay to any postman bringing mail back and units with Vacs and you start to get the picture.

IMO in most cases its not the DOMs or even the DSMs but those above them that are to fault. I have only worked in or around deliveries for just over a year but you can see where the problems lie. Its not all down to the management or delivery planners but they must take most of the blame for what is happening. The planners in charge of the planners simply don't understand deliveries in many cases and a target of 100BSI is unachievable in an environment where you cannot with certainty forecast traffic/workload and flex your hours accordingly. They have never been able to achieve it in any Mail Centre where forecasting is reasonably sophisticated because you simply can't flex your hours and forecasts are not always correct and so contingency hourage is built in.

Nope DOMs cannot authorise OT till next financial year and that is 100% gospel.

if they cant(or wont) authorise, dont do it. hand back BEFORE you go out or leave in what you wont be able to complete in your delivery time, then thats their wilful delay shyte oot the window.

Is this as a result of 'financial concurrence"?, all temps in my mate's office have been given their cards.Their contracts will not be renewed after this weekend .
Since our P&L revision seems to have disappeared we've got 15 new starters in our office, a 10% rise in staffing! :chuckle

The empty threat!
Have a look at your walk log, if you return mail to the office you must inform your manager, failure to do so is wilful delay.
bring mail back isn't.

I think he's giving out links to national agreements in preparation for the onslaught.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
