Re: Reasons why Revisons are failing
But this plan wasn,t about savings Dingo. It was about modernising the company to take into account the change in the type of items that we deliver due to the onslaught of internet shopping, reduction in traditional mail, and the increase in non adressed marketing literature. Now you tell us that it was all about savings, so that was a lie in the first place. The 2010 and Beyond has never changed the attitude of managers, either senior or bottom rung in the way they treat the shop floor workers, and have never changed the way they interpret agreements to suit themselves. They can put as many workers pictures in the Courier as they wish to try to make it look like that the bulk of the workforce are straining at the leash to make things work for the better. The facts are that until they apologise and stand up and say that they have got it wrong and that bullying and harrassment has been rife in the business by management, they will be unable to take the bulk of the workforce with them. It takes a lot to be humble, but the differences this can make for a few minutes of integrity, will send a different message down to those of us who have seen and experienced the goings on in this company over the last ten years. The CWU Heirarchy would also benefit from taking a piece of humble pie, as they are not blameless in what is happening.

Need to replace Higson andTollhurst, not just Leighton and Croizer to get that apology and for us to move on.
Lincox is right we did not vote on savings based revisions, any genuine savings found are a bonus.

Re: Reasons why Revisons are failing
We are NOT machines. All the figures, budgets, savings, bullying, bsi rates are all irrelevant in terms of what the human body can actually do . Not everone works at the same rate, a slower person can sometimes produce more accurate work but obviously takes longer whereas a fast person makes time but may be more likely to make mistakes which in the long run costs extra time to put right. There is also a point where the body has to slow down. So its not rocket science, once management accept that they can not get blood out of a stone, only then will everyone concerned be able to pull together and produce some quality work, however long it takes.

ADD TO THE LIST
These revisions are mainly based on one false claim.
: That an increase in walk sorting will shorten the ips and allow more delivery !
false !
increased walksort has failed arrive.
In fact the increase in d2d has decreased the time available for delivery span.
also the permanant lapsing of duties has numerous affects,
you a lose from the ips the sorting of the postman/ vacant duty
you lose a second person from the ips who has to prep it .
all of this increases ips span for those still sorting! and decreases delivery time
lastly the lapsing adds time your delivery.
7.35 we were still sorting ips the other day!
with a missort run still to come.
packets and signed for items are increasing and not been acknowledged.

Re: Reasons why Revisons are failing
It does amaze me that some believe that Royal Mail"s plan to introduce walk sequencing , delivery methods , one outward pass one inward pass , 100 BSI indoor and outdoor and to close mail centres was not about savings. Royal Mail"s business plan which led to the agreement BTA had a savings assumption but that they would not earn that until year 3 of the plan as would pay costs out first ie vrs , CDVs and lump sums.
What the deal was not was a budget driven revison as in previous as it was meant to based on the tools IWT , geo route ect.
Now fishtank has made a valued point and some offices get better deals when an office revision has failed or is failing. Equally I know a few where the members just get used to working too time and the office continues to collaspe SW19 is a good case in point where management introduced CDVs , removed their 4 day week and introduce a geo route revision by executive action during the dispute. They got their 4 day week back and 8 extra duties but the office is still failing and Royal Mail have lost the staff.

Re: Reasons why Revisons are failing
Dingo - the way the agreement was sold to members was that this wasn't about savings when we knew it was, all the things we (the mouthy ones on this forum) said were going to happen has come to frutition, I'm too tired now to keep fighting and my office is the same (even though our office will get hours in if the planners plan is forced in).
Some of us have been fighting without much backup for too long to care anymore.
ps. headquarters needs to get some control in NI otherwise half the members are going to leave because of political decisions.

Re: Reasons why Revisons are failing
I know how you feel, my office is is on the verge of a revision and i dont see in many ofmy colleagues the will
to oppose harmful changes i am hoping to be proved wrong.
my office is an aging one and i can understand a 60 year old postmans perspective not wanting to jeopardize his pensions
etc.
im caught in the middle between the aforementioned and some young and naive enough to be hoodwinked.

11. The unachevable performance parameters in IWTdingo wrote:So what are the reasons for the revisons failing. My thoughts are listed below but would like to understand yours.
1. Model traffic week set to low
2 Cannot do 100 BSI outdoor or indoor
3. Park and loop to big a change and not planned right
4. Walk sequencing not achieving the right percentage of work to the delivery office
5. Mail centres are not clearing to workplan and providing the work quickly enough to the MPU
6. Not all Mail Centres doing one inward pass so the work arrives later to the MPU.
7. Too Many packets and increases in tracked items .
8. Geo route set at 100 BSI outdoors is unachievable
9 Managers , reps do not have enough of an understanding of the tools which revisons are based on .
10. Too many revisons have been planned based on someone currently sorting at say 70 EP and then expecting them to sort at 100 EP on the Monday.
12. The unachevable performance parameters in pegasus.

Re: Reasons why Revisons are failing
Dingo, can you please tell me what this is then if it is not budget driven, which to me is the same as savings plan. Management and the CWU in partnership have made a catastrophic error, and it is now costing a daily fortune to try to run a business that does not have the manpower, foresight and the will of the workforce to make the difference, and they are trying to load the blame and the cost down to the shop floor workers. This company and union need a complete change of guidance, because the current executives have failed miserably on both sides.

Re: Reasons why Revisons are failing
The longer delivery spans and less take home pay are very definitely in the minus column for the "Deal of the Century" belle but i didn't include them in my list because they were not up for negotiation during the revision process.belle smith wrote:Longer delivery spans?fishtank wrote:In the minus column.

They could not be "won" or "lost" so play no part in judging whether a revision was a success or failure.
The point i was trying to make to dingo was much simpler.
Shouldn't we,as a union judge a revision on what benefits,we as the membership can gain from it?
Not what level of savings Royal Mail have achieved to date...
I personally couldn't give a s**t if they don't realise a single penny....it's not as if we are attempting to save the company from the brink of collapse,we all know what's going to happen in the next couple of years,we will be sold and it will happen whether these cuts are achieved or not....all we are really doing is making the company leaner and therefore more attractive to potential buyers.
Royal Mail's financial position is a weapon often used to beat the union and membership into submission but i honestly couldn't care if Moya's arm is down the back of the sofa looking for spare change...we have given all we can and there is nothing left so what will be will be.
Financial Concurrence dingo?.....tell Mr Higson...fishtank says he can poke it up his ****.

Re: Reasons why Revisons are failing
Lincox there is a difference between a budget driven revison and a revision using IWT , Geo route or any other revison tool. A budget driven revision is normally that a Region is giving a reduction in their budget and they then apply a savings target across the region. No office is spared.
In the case of BTA revisions are not meant to be done like that , hence Dale Haddons letter to Dave Ward confirming this. Revisons are meant to be done using IWT , geo route ect. So any savings an office has are based on revision tools not a budget requirement.
Now to say that Royal Mail are not in a bad financial postion would be ludicrous. Any business that has lost 51% of work to DSA access therefore reducing revenue and are paying for the largest pension defcit in the UK. In fact Royal Mail have stated to the government that they will not have the ability to pay the pension defcit next year , now that may be them trying to pressure the government into the bill but even if the bill clears parliment then it will be ages before the government can attract any protential buyer as they will have to solve the pension issue and de regulation before anyone would be intrested in buying Royal Mail. So the business was always going to introduce their business plan after all they borrowed the money from the government to buy the automation. The union got the best deal they thought could get. Not everyone agrees but it was carried by those who bothered to vote and in line with the rules of the ballot.
Now where do we go , I have a feeling at some stage that Royal Mail will abandon some of the tools and revert to negotiations. It may take some time to get that point but they are not getting revisons in quickly and are under pressure from all sides about quality.

No...because they can't,they are tied up in a world of costings and quality figures and do not care whether you are human or not.malcolm3011 wrote: Here Here very true but will senior managers within RM take this onboard, somehow i don't think so
Costings and Quality are the only two things that matter and Quality is only in there because they get fined for lack of it which affects the....Costings.
Royal Mail are trying to wriggle out of using these tools because it is costing too much, not because of any sudden realisation that they are asking too much from their staff.
