Hi, hope the advice was useful, how are you finding the job?. As jobs go it's a good'un, and there might be the odd one or two fellows who think they can rule the roost, but keep your head down do your job thoroughly and diligently and you'll be fine. We have quite a few positive points like being able to buy extra holiday, a bonus at Christmas, paid breaks, working outdoors, which in the summer is fantastic. i'm sure there are more. i hope other people will point them out.

I was told don't apply the sticker until you are at the door so the customer can see you are taking it off the correct packet/letter, obviously you can still do it if there is no answer (all reply no S**t). and as for writing the address on, that's a no-no also. You could perhaps write a coded address on the space where the sticker will go, so that when you apply the sticker it covers the address you wrote.

and write under each bar code 3 acacia drv, 17 queen st etc.
this way, as i get one signature im aware whats coming next.

Yep its a direct violation of the Data Protection Act - Imagine someone who steals from the Specials Locker (its been done), sees a sheet come in with 13 Acaia Avenue and a signature - and printed name - Viola -they have a name, address and signature and can steal someone's identity quite easily. No need waiting for the postie on his rounds, or using an abandoned house, just check the frame before the postie ties up - best of all no direct trace back all the suspicion falls on the postie.

I would not recommend this particular method.

If it is raining keep your Special deliveries in a redirection bag to keep them dry.

Work your contract.
Do not start before your time. You wont get paid for this, unless they've asked to to come in early and are paying you.
Don't let management, or anyone for that matter, bully or harrass you.
Too many people start early to get their rounds ready, or sneak out early to enable themselves to complete on time. These people are mad, they don't get paid for this and they are "helping" RM in this way too, as this sometimes proves that their walks are too much to cope with. If your round is too large ask for it to be tested!
IF you have to cut off ensure that there is another postie, or even your union rep with you when you inform management of your intention to do so.
Do not let management badger/pressure/force you into working over your time.
If you wish to work over your time or have to do excess then also ensure that you're paid to do so and that they do in fact do pay you as well. Some people haven't been paid o/t due to management "failure" to ensure that any overtime/excess/ timesheet has been filled out correctly and sent in too.

I use abbreviations on a seperate bit of paper - 13 acacia drive = 13AD

I would not recommend this particular method.

I used to just write the house number and the first letter of the street, eg 25 B, or 24A P, lightly in pen, then either put the sticker over the writing or write the number in bold over the top. It was handy, especially if you knew the round, you could see at a glance when your next special/recorded was.
Never had a problem with it.

A good tip that I always did was to look slightly out of breath and flustered on delivery. "Your late today, postie" soon turns into "Oh you poor thing...would you like a cold drink".

Look after the old people on your delivery, even just saying good morning (afternoon now) can make their day, give them a smile and a cheery hello even though you feel like cr**. If you know a person is elderly or disabled,give them extra time to answer (a few seconds) before disappearing into thin air. If your customers appreciate your efforts, they complain less. And some even tip well at Christmas.

I started on Tuesday and so far so good
I do have a couple of questions about pay if anyone would be so kind as to answer - what day should the money go into my bank (i have my first pay slip through already but it has not gone into my bank)? Does the pay week go from Monday-Sunday?
