Have there ever been any of the problems that subpostmasters experience with the Horizon system in the crown network regarding financial losses?

I have worked in several Crown Offices ever since Horizon was introduced, and before. Whilst I find an awful lot of things to moan about, accuracy of the Horizon System is not one of them.

If I were in the position these people say they are in, I would sit down all night, every night, with a transaction log, and an adding machine/computer until I found the problem.

While I do feel sorry for the people that have been affected by the 'glitch' in the system, I think if I was affected I would do all I could to either investigate it myself or get someone to investigate for me. Every time I hear of a case nowadays it seems to point to putting false figures in the balance. I completely agree that that is wrong, but I cannot figure out why POL seem to refuse to acknowledge that there could be a problem and refuses to give people in these cases the guidance that they need.

In our gaff, they wouldn't bat an eyelid. We have customers doing that sort of thing day in, day out. And not as some form of protest at their long wait...

Just 'cos their fookin' mental.

Still, if you can get them to stop running round the office being a Spitfire for a minute, sell 'em a life insurance policy.

From experience, I've received transaction corrections overnight from 'someone' 'somewhere', automatically deducting an amount they say I was liable for due to an error. On one occasion, the t/c related to a green giro cashed erroniously, for a few hundred pounds. You have to accept such a t/c before getting on with the day's business, and wait to see what (if any) physical evidence is sent to you in a few days/weeks' time. The physical evidence on this occasion was for a different office entirely : different address, different fad code. Some pr*ck at Product and Branch accounting (or wherever these idiots hang out) decided to enter my fad code, obviously without checking, and without oversight, leaving me stressed until I received (luckily on this occasion) the physical evidence showing the giro had been cashed somewhere unrelated to me and my office and fad code. Of course, they don't accept telephone correspondence, have to write and get it put right. Horizon may run ok, the pr*cks who can acces my office system and mess about with my accounting and balancing by issuing t/cs ? It's these clowns, their oversight, and exactly what they can and cannot do inside the Horizon accounting for an individual office, need to be investigated. Pete.

Easy to be jaundiced about this sort of thing, except I have seen 'old' Horizon do a couple of funny things. One evening I had just balanced the safe when a couple of counter staff transfered money to me. It was quiet, so I accepted the transfers, altered my cash declaration and hit 'Enter'. NUTS! I'm thousands out. Dawned on me that the discrapancy was in fact the total of the two transfers. We left it 10 minutes and declared the same cash again and the machine then balanced.

Another time I was in a stock that we only used for back-room accounting. In fact it only had one stock entry. Imagine my amazement one evening when it came up with a whole list of stock, TV stamps, stamps, books, the whole lot  Boss thought I was crazy till the same thing happened to her two weeks later :Very Happy

More recently I accepted money into a stock, not noticing I was inadvertently in the wrong stock and it had already been rolled into next TP. Through a long chain of coincidences it effectively made the money disappear for one month till next TP. [What was wrong with week numbers?]

Heard one or two other stories from other people. So I figure that there is something funny with the system like my first two experiences, it's some sort of complicated error like my other mistake or of course they have sticky fingers and want to blame the computer. Very hard to come to an informed decision without knowing the technicalities; way above my level. Of course in the old days you physically had a 'reason' for not having the money e.g. a pension docket. Now so many transactions are online with little in the way of tangible records in the office. Nevertheless, the thousands missing quoted in the film is hardly a couple of lost utility bills is it?

It is just for postmasters only - private form.

It a good way to get collective complaints together.

There are some quite high up post office staff on the forums that read and reply and often get problems sorted.

It makes interesting reading and its worthwhile joining
