A REWARD of £10,000 is being offered for information leading to the conviction of a robber who repeatedly attacked a worker at a post office.

The violent thug targeted the shop, in Churchill Parade, Falcon Lodge, a few days before Christmas last year.

Police revealed this week that once inside the venue, the attacker feigned an injury to his leg, tricking the manager into walking out from behind her counter to offer assistance.

As she approached, he threatened her with violence and ordered her to lock the front door and display the 'closed' sign.

The ordeal – which police described as "particularly violent" – continued as she was told to fill two bin bags with cash. She then suffered a series of physical attacks.

Announcing the reward, Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, who is leading the investigation, appealed to Observer readers. He said: "I urge you to come forward immediately if you know anything, so this man can be caught and prevented from doing the same again.

"This was a particularly violent robbery, where the good nature of the manager of the shop was exploited.

"We hope this reward will encourage people to come forward with information that will help us identify the attacker and bring him to justice as soon as possible."

The robbery happened on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, between 10.50am and 11am.

The robber fled the scene carrying the two bags containing cash. He is believed to have headed towards Springfield Road and Fowler Road on foot.

He is described as white, with brown eyes, in his mid to late 20s, of stocky build and 5ft 8in tall.

He was wearing a black waterproof coat, grey tracksuit bottoms and black trainers. He also wore a black beanie hat, black gloves and a stripy scarf.

Anyone who has information or witnessed anything suspicious in the area on the morning of December 22 is asked to contact Force CID on 0345 113 5000. Alternatively, contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
