Are they trying to get us to leave to save on redundancy?
This relates to the closure of Stoke MDEC at Etruria.
Given the state of Royal Mail locally and the fact that most of the work at Leek Road moved to Wolverhampton, and Crewe being moved to Warrington, it strikes me that relocation isn't going to be an option, and all we'll be offered is compulsory redundancy.
The behaviour of managers (bar one) in recent weeks has made me think there is now a plot in motion to get as many resignations as possible so RM can save on redundancy payments. There's all sorts of b*llocks afoot, ranging from the holiday arrangements to increased favouritism. Even the shift manager is more horrible, aggressive and yobbish than usual. Does anyone think they're been given a target to get the overall redundancy payments below?

Re: Are they trying to get us to leave to save on redundancy
I think the whole revision across the country has been introduced to push people out the door on a freebie. It certainly isn't down to savings as all the revisions so far have cost a fortune, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was thier "cunning plan" all along!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Cuts no ice with me, pay me enough I will leave no less, I am not going otherwise, in fact I take great pleasure being a thorn in their side and there is nothing they can do about it.

I couldn't agree more. In my D.O we are all full time with over 10 years experience and are convinced that we are the sort of people RM wants rid of.NWpostie wrote:Cuts no ice with me, pay me enough I will leave no less, I am not going otherwise, in fact I take great pleasure being a thorn in their side and there is nothing they can do about it.
I would be out of the door like a shot for a decent redundancy package but I'm not going anywhere for nothing!
It's kinda funny but a sort of siege mentality has developed, we all do the job properly so as not to give any grounds for disciplinary.
The best thing is though.. if you do the job to the letter of the law in some instances this can be a more of a pain in the ass for royal mail than if you don't.

Re: Are they trying to get us to leave to save on redundancy
Agreed. Their does seem to be a lack of alternative roles within the S-o-T area, so yes, I would imagine redundancy is all we'll be offered.Typing Monkey wrote: This relates to the closure of Stoke MDEC at Etruria.

That's one way of looking at but there is a flaw in the logic.Typing Monkey wrote:The behaviour of managers (bar one) in recent weeks has made me think there is now a plot in motion to get as many resignations as possible so RM can save on redundancy payments. If managers have been told they need to reduce numbers before closure to save on redundancy they have another tool at their disposal besides making the work environment unbearable and people miserable.... da-da-dah ...dismissal. OK, so staff have to do something wrong (in theory) to face disciplinary action but let's be honest, enough people give management enough rope that quite a few could go before we get shutdown. And it's not like managers are unaware of who, where, why, what, that they can't do anything. I'm pretty sure one "piece of rope" is even a police matter, so it's obvious they can't be bothered, but then again it could be the old who rather than what.
That, along with what can only described as "ratty" behaviour, says they've actually been told they'll be leaving the business when the site closes.

Re: Are they trying to get us to leave to save on redundancy
Agreed. However, there is also the possibility they're avoiding dismissal given that some their previous have "gone South". I know of 2 that didn't go smoothly. One resulted in reinstatement with no penalty and a slap on the wrist from Rugby ("case should never have seen the light of day"), and a Stage 3 attendance ended up with RM coughing up £11k just to get said individual to leave the business. Says to me the dismissal route is being avoided because they scared of losing appeals/ETs.Happy Keyer wrote:That's one way of looking at but there is a flaw in the logic.

Re: Are they trying to get us to leave to save on redundancy
Coming to work intoxicated usually gets someone dismissed as well but someone at Stoke MDEC has been doing it regularly for over 6 years with the knowledge of all managers on the site (and most of their colleagues), and nothing has been said to them. It's never about what's been done, but who did it. Threatening members of staff is another one, but again, who rather than what. Rant against previous' naivety, management stooge, or even manager, over.rogerrabit wrote:Their seems to be a lot of 'moaners' at Stoke MDEC. 'Moaning' will not get you dismissed. Poking your manager in the eye will and nobody would do that. So, your theory is 100 % wishful thinking.
We're all getting made redundant next year, there's no redeployment opps available unless we do it now (ie as individuals), and certain managers ARE behaving as though they are trying to get people to resign. End of. If you want to stay in Royal Mail I suggest you apply for a transfer now, the sooner the better, as you stand more of a chance of getting it. Otherwise, grit your teeth and don't let that Manc wannabe hardman get you down.

i think deep down you know they want full time to resign theyve made working conditions unbearablerogerrabit wrote:Are you people for real.

People just like to take their frustrations on life out on their managers at work.

The conspiracy theorist is an integral part of RM life these days, and after all, where would we be without the "the Coke machine has a hidden camera recording our movements" type of individuals to brighten our days?

Does xxxx x'xxxxx still threaten to take people into the car park or a dark corner, or has he finally grown out of his "hard-man" persona? I know when I left he was virtually making threats of violence against people and that's gotta be nearly 2 years ago now. Is he even still there?

Re: Are they trying to get us to leave to save on redundancy
i was always pretty good at that missing letters game on wheel of fortune and by the letters available i reckon i know the answer without even needing to ask for any letters and i don't even work in stoke!!! Is this certain individual still playing the hardman then? .........it's hard to picture les from 'vic reeves big night out' threatening people, he never got away with s**t like that when he was up ere that's for certain. why try to be the hard man when you're a little whispy streak of p iss like that, what a tool.Marky Mark wrote:Does xxxx x'xxxxx still threaten to take people into the car park or a dark corner, or has he finally grown out of his "hard-man" persona? When he's actually here the answer is yes!! newbie80, you'll be surprised. When he first arrived here in Stoke we had one of the 'in crowd' going round scaremongering people that we had a hardened footie hooligan running our MDEC!! No kidding. However, over time the more enlightened of us have come round to your way of thinking and try to avoid laughing in his face.newbie80 wrote:Is this certain individual still playing the hardman then? .........it's hard to picture les from 'vic reeves big night out' threatening people, he never got away with s**t like that when he was up ere that's for certain. why try to be the hard man when you're a little whispy streak of p iss like that, what a tool.

Re: Are they trying to get us to leave to save on redundancy
tbh i dont think many of us will get the option of redundancy. LKDR and spot checks (atleast in the Stoke MDEC) are in place now and how do you argue against them when management pull you into an office? They will say that you are unneccessarily rejecting images and if you just have 1 image wrong that isnt a reject but thats what you did for whatever reason how do you argue that? Its all a con job designed for them too make sacking us all easier, Assign blame to the individual etc... Those of you who have been there since day 1 i dont think will see redundancy, you fellas will cost too much they would rather pay the same money out to 3 or 4 people who have only been there a few years. You fellas who have been there since day 1 will probably find yourselves in an office at some point explaining why you are on LKDR and why you are not providing 100% accurracy and 10000000000 tasks per hour. When management have demonstrated that they have done all they can to help you and there is "no significant improvement" they will probably say that you are not giving 100% to the job or are unwilling to improve and probably try and dismiss you before they offer redundancy. Word of advice though, it seems to me that its as much the coaches that you need to be wary of as it is management and make sure that YOU READ EVERYTHING THAT THEY PUT IN FRONT OF YOU VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU SIGN IT.
i wonder how you would go on in an ET if they decided to dismiss you even though you were well above gate way standards but falling short of their targets? The sad thing is if that was successful, the employee might make more money and get their record cleared than they would if they took redundancy. I take it LKDR is still under disagreement also?
