My office is short staffed so I can't see why RM are making people redundant when there are other jobs within the group.

The process involved a paper matching exercise followed by a 'suitable alternative employment' process by which the business was supposed to match us to vacancies anywhere in the business (see the Brian Scott note in another thread). This was followed by an invitation to a meeting where I was told that there was no suitable role anywhere in the business and that if I didn't take VR I was deemed to be redundant with a last day of service two days later. The CMA were useless, completely ineffective and have rolled over for this. I was offered VR but, due to my age and length of service, didn't cost in so if I took my pension it would have been actuarially reduced. It was put to me that if I didn't take VR I was then taking CR, I pointed out that you don't 'take' CR, the business makes you redundant. There's lots more I could say but may leave it a week or two until the dust settles and I get my money ! You also should be aware that this new breed of managers (not OPG's made up but recruited from outside industry) are completely different from the old school and have no compunction in offing you if given the chance. In my view (and I've been around a good long while) the CWU have no chance of stopping this now it has started. I'm probably well out of it.

Royal Mail managers are now “not likely” to strike over Christmas in a dispute over compulsory redundancies, according to the Unite union’s lead officer representing mail managers

Royal Mail managers are now “not likely” to strike over Christmas in a dispute over compulsory redundancies, according to the Unite union’s lead officer representing mail managers.

National secretary Paul Reuter met Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene for talks last week over plans to make 1,500 managers redundant.

The company has so far refused to make guarantees that no-one will be forced out of a job, which led Unite to announce a strike ballot last month.

But Mr Reuter told Tribune this week: “We anticipate that they may be able to get away with this without compulsory redundancy. They’re not pulling the trigger on compulsory redundancy at the moment. If they do, we’ll respond.”

Both enforced redundancies and a strike ballot were therefore “not likely this year”, Mr Reuter said.
Royal Mail business, and the potential for disruption by industrial action, vastly increases in the run-up to Christmas.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Hi
First time poster, longtime lurker. My wife was made redundant a week ago with over 25yrs service. They seem to be targeting those with alot of years and on final salary but they don't touch the senior management that make those decisions and yes the cma were nowhere to be seen. There was no offer to go into other departments it was a case of take the money or you would be kicked out the door with a lower package. When she signed off the package there was a shed load of money being paid out in redundancy payments that morning. All the cma were concerned about was that she had cancelled her subs.

I am sorry to hear of anyone losing their job and you are correct that the CMA have been completely ineffective. At the present time it is mainly support staff that have been effected but it will spread like a dose of the proverbial.

Whilst the business continues to advertise for deputy managers (on the cheap) and covers other positions with acting managers, temporary promotions and 'talent' staff withdrawn for a fixed period (again on the cheap) people are being blackmailed and threatened into taking VR. Another fine example of Royal Mail stamping out bullying and harassment ... lets hope what goes around come around.
